Words you need to know…
 Credit---Official certification that a student has completed a
course. At BGHS, we have whole (1) credit courses and half
(1/2) credit courses.
 Semester---One of the two divisions of an academic year.
1st semester--the start of school to winter break (August – December).
2nd semester--after winter break until the end of the year (January – May)
 Prerequisite—What is required before you can take a class
 Transcript---A student’s academic record.
 Core Courses—Academic courses recognized by the NCAA
Clearinghouse
 Career Pathway—A series of courses that lead a student to
being ready for a specific career. Kind of like a college major.

Class Rank
 A temporary GPA is figured at the end of each year
and a final one is done at the end of senior year.
 Rank in class is determined by the numerical grade
point average.
 The final averages of all courses are counted in
figuring the numerical GPA.
 The student receives a decimal GPA based on a 4.0
scale with the following values assigned

Awarded to graduating seniors who will attend a Kentucky College, university or
technical school. The amount received will be based on each year’s GPA and a one
