RONGSHUI COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM
Service Project – Farm Work
Miao Culture Experience
River kayaking
Rongshui Miao Autonomous County is close to the boarder of Guangxi and
Guizhou Provinces. It’s the home to Minorities of Miao, Yao, Dong. Its beautiful
natural sceneries and the colorful minority culture make it voted as one of the 50
must-see places in China by ‘Chinese National Geographic’. Meanwhile, it’s also as
one of the 100 poorest counties in China. It’s an ideal destination for experiential
education programs combined with components of curriculum based community
service and humanity.
Camp Base –
Yubu Village & Yubu Miao Culture Hostel will be the camp case during the service
project.
Camp Base –
Rongshui Miaoshan International Hotel (3 star) is where we will stay in Rongshui
County.
Sep is harvest season, all local farmers will be busy with farm work. Some of
Xiaosang Primary school students have to leave from school for a few days
helping their families. We will help with the villager’s farm work, it will help to
release the pressure of the local families.
Xiaosang Primary School is located in Xiaosang Village. We will help them to build
a garden bed so they can grow fresh vegetables for their lunches.
Wind your way through the Rongshui area’s hills, Karst rocks will surround you as
you climb up and down the small mountains in this area, and you’ll walk among
tiered tea fields, which will give you an chance to see some of what fuels this
region’s economy. Hiking here gives students an opportunity to see the landscape
in an up close and personal way, and we make sure they’re given ample
opportunity to do that.
Paddling down the beautiful Beijiang River, students take a one-day Miao villages
trip, which are recognized as the most undisturbed example of the Miao minority
group, one of the very last specimens of the Miao and their ancient and colorful
culture. You’ll make your way down the river that runs through town, karst rock
surrounding you at every turn. We kayak on the Bei River, which weaves its way
through the mountainous region. If we’re lucky and have time, we’ll get a chance
to swim in the river. The gentle rapids give the students a good challenge.
This is true cultural immersion. Students will be able to meet and interact with
members of the local community, and have an opportunity to watch members of
the Miao ethnic minority take part in a traditional performance that will showcase
some of the group’s traditions. There also be a chance to make dumplings in the
Guangxi style here.
THANK YOU!
We look forward to seeing you on the
incredible Rongshui program!
