Life-wide Learning –Cultural Exchange to Cupertino, USA Unity and Peace through Education Sub topic: * School-life * Adventure in America

Introduction In this trip, we went to some famous places like the Fisherman ‘s Wharf, the Great America, the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum, etc. And we spent of our Mid-Autumn Festival there, too.

At the same time, we taught or told them some of our Chinese traditional food and some stories about our festivals, e.g. the Moon Festival’s aim is to let us gather together with our families and relatives to eat moon- cakes and chat together.

We hope you can know more about our experiences and will enjoy reading our project.

The Study in the States

• Facilities that the school in the States have • About the teachers in the States • About the students in the States • Some of the subjects that we took in the States • What time the school starts and finishes

Education Style in the states •What lessons do we have every day •About the teacher’s and the students’ relationship •About the classrooms •About the test results and assignments

Good practices that I have learnt in the US:

• very active in asking questions during lessons • very concentrated in class • very friendly with the teachers • co-operate with the classmates while doing projects

Practices that need to be improved:

• no eating and chewing gums in class • no rubbish everywhere • no make-up in school Students in America do not need to wear school uniform. They can wear what they want and they can wear make-up and put on perfume. But I think the prac tice of putting on make-up should be carefully examined again because when their make-up melted, they would concentrate on putting some more make-up and thus would not pay attention in class. Also they always threw rubbish everywhere during lunch time and we needed to help them to throw it into the bin.

The differences between the schools in the US and HK:

In America • no need to wear school uniform • not much school rules • the school allows students to drink in class • teachers let the students do more projects than homework • teachers would like the students to enjoy their class • teachers would think of some interesting games to play in class In Hong Kong • many school rules to obey • teachers would give us much homework to do • no games in class but interesting conversation • need to learn more than others • lunch time is longer • more periods at school

This teacher teaches us science They are the good friends of my host and also mine.

The differences between the school life in HK and in the US The US style of schooling:

•No school uniform •Students need to go to their teacher’s classroom to have their lesson •Same lessons every day •More freedom

HK style of schooling :

•Need to wear school uniform ( except for some special schools like international schools ) •The teachers go to student’s classroom to have lessons •Have different lessons every day
