How to tackle the exam…
• You have 1 ¾ hours for Paper 1. 1 hour should
be spent on the first section.
• Use 10 minutes to read the texts carefully,
underlining points of interest.
• Identify medium, purpose and audience of
each. This will help inform your answers.
• Read questions carefully. Do not confuse
presentational, structural and linguistic
devices. This will seriously affect your grade.
Revision Exercise
• On your desks you have a grid, and two
example texts.
• Firstly, you have 10 minutes to read and
annotate / underline. Do this silently to
replicate exam conditions.

sections of the grid. You have 10 minutes.
• Be ready to share answers.
Next task…
• You should complete the rest of the grid on
your own.
• Be ready to share ideas with the rest of the
class.
• If unsure about anything, please ask.
