ACLS History E-Book Project a In June 1999, with a $3-million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the ACLS undertook an electronic publishing initiative for books of high quality in the field of history.

The project launched in September 2002, two years ahead of schedule.

It became self-sufficient in April 2005.
