Koblenz and Bonn. The lake lies 259 m above sea level, is 8 km in

blue, very cold and bitter to the taste. The lake has no natural outlet
and so the water level changes considerably due to evaporation and
rainfall conditions.
MARIA LAACH ABBEY

Maria Laach Abbey is a
Benedictine abbey situated on
the south-western shore of the
Laacher See, in the Eifel region
of the Rhineland-Palatinate in
Germany.
Founded in 1093, it is widely
considered a masterpiece of
German Romanesque

appearance of a fairy-tale
fortress, which is further
accentuated by its scenic
lakeside setting.

Founded by the Celts as
Borbetomagus, Worms is in a
dispute with Cologne, Augsburg and
Trier about the title of Germany’s
oldest city. However, it is the only
German member of the Most
Ancient European Towns Network.
