P = Pre-head
H = Head
B= Body
N = Nucleus
T = Tail
Elements in an intonation-group





The pre-head: any unstressed syllable or syllables that
调冠
may precede the head - or the nucleus,
if there is no head.
The head:
the first stressed syllable in the tone-group except
调头
the nucleus. In the tone group, if there is only one
stressed syllable, that is nucleus.
The body : the part that lies between the head and the nucleus.
调身
The nucleus: the stressed syllable of the last
调核
prominent word in a tone unit
The tail:
any syllable or syllables that may
调尾
follow the nucleus
