A Yukon Bird Club Event
The Albert Creek Bird Observatory
Located 15 km west of Watson Lake at Upper Liard
Open daily until June 7, 2014 (closed during snow/rain)
Hours are from official sunrise for 6 hours
Learn about the birds of southeast Yukon
See birds close-up
Observe migrating birds overhead or flying low within the site or swimming in the ponds
Talk with the banders and volunteers
Watch the work of an observatory
Birds caught in mist nets are banded, weighed, measured, and body fat content assessed.
Directions:
Cross the Liard River Bridge, drive past Upper Liard, over the concrete Albert Creek Bridge, and turn onto the next road on the right side (north).
There’s a sign on the corner ‘Albert Creek Banding Site’. First road to the right is a narrow road leading to the site. Another sign at that corner.
WARNING: This road is not suitable for RVs larger than a camper van and there is no large parking area or large turn-around at the Observatory.
This road is bumpy and during wet weather and snowmelt can be muddy with large puddles. Walking time from the intersection is a pleasant 15 minutes.
For up-to-date information about the road condition, contact Ted at 1-867-335-1518.
