Folk costumes
Folk costume usually relates to a geographic area
or a period of time in history, but it can also indicate
social, marital and/or religious status. Such
costumes often come in two forms: one for everyday
occasions, the other for festivals and formal wear.

Past
There were not so many
opportunities to buy a wide
variety of clothes in the past.
However, a lot of women
wanted to dress up
originally. Therefore they
sewed their clothes
themselves. They could find
models, ideas and patterns in
a popular fashion magazine
Burda which still exists.
The 1960s was an exciting era in vintage clothing
and fashion. The hemlines went anywhere from
floor length to ultra mini. Mod style appeared in
the late 60s and it set a tone of a whole new era
of style. The new look made way for lines and
empire waists and the colours went from solid to
bold, psychedelic with a hint of warmth.

The clothes worn in the 80s depicted people who
were trying to find themselves. They looked for
ways to express their creativity and individuality.
Men wore heavy make up and grew long hair.
Women wore short hair and layers of clothing.
Both sexes were looking for an identity. 1980s
clothing styles are back on the shelves now, and
we take a look at what makes these eighties
fashions for women endure the test of time.

Today‘s fashion is only recycling of everything what
there was once. Everything‘s “in“, so you can wear
anything you like and it is unlikely that you trip.
Young people like a lot of fashion styles, for example
Punk, Hip-Hop or Gothic.
We have prepared a questionnaire about fashion
styles at our school and we‘re going to introduce you
the most polular ones.
QUESTIONNAIRE
Rock
The rock style is the most popular style at our
school - 66% of girls and 60% of boys like it.
typical For the rock style are crazy haircuts,
leather jackets, heeled shoes and a lot of
metal accessories.
gothic
Gothic fashion is a clothing style
worn by members of the Goth
subculture; a dark, sometimes
morbid, eroticized fashion and style
of dress. Typical Gothic fashion
includes dyed black hair, black lips
and black clothes. Both male and
female goths wear dark eyeliner
and dark fingernails. Styles are
often borrowed from the Punks,
Victorians and Elizabethans.
HIP-HOP
Hip-Hop is particulary popular among boys at our school.
Hip-Hop was „born“ in New York in the seventies of the
twentieth century. During years it has formed into today‘s
version - popular global subculture. Hip-Hop is
characterized by wide trousers, loose shirt and a cap with
a flat peak.
QUESTIONNAIRE
Future
We do not have to wear a
school uniform at our school
now but in the questionnaire
more than half of the asked
students would welcome this
idea.
The most popular colours
were dark blue, black, white
and red.
