Get Set For Life.™ National Federation of State High School Associations VOLLEYBALL FOR GIRLS 1. The League will sponsor championship play-offs in all four classes. 2. The official rules published by the National Federation will be used along with the following adoptions: a. A 3 out of 5 match may be played when only two schools are involved in a single match. b. A team is limited to five matches a day during post-season play only. c. If a team has not arrived at the tournament site and ready to play at the scheduled time, it will forfeit its initial game in the tournament. If the team has not arrived within fifteen minutes of the scheduled time, the match will be forfeited. For 3 out of 5 matches, wait an additional 15 minutes. d. If a match is suspended due to power failure or other unforeseen circumstances, it will be resumed from the point of suspension. The score and lineup will be the same when it is resumed as it was at the moment of suspension. 3. The head coach must attend a league sponsored rules clinic. 4. August 30 If a school is participating in a preseason tournament more than seven days prior to its first regular season game, the certificate of eligibility must be submitted before participation in this tournament. . Take Part. Get Set For Life.™ National Federation of State 6. Certified officials are required for all varsity contests. High School Associations 7. Instructions for postponing or canceling matches in which certified officials are booked are on page B-58. 8. Varsity volleyball teams will be limited to 18 play dates, four scrimmages and one jamboree. JV teams are allowed 16 JV play dates, two scrimmages and one jamboree. Each invitational entered will count as one of these 18/16 dates. One invitational may be pre-season and start on August 20. 9. Clean and secure dressing facilities must be provided for opponents. A school is responsible, within reason, for the clothing of opponents, but not rings, money, watches, etc. 10. The Executive Committee recommends that spectators not kick or beat bleachers. Signs with the exception of welcome signs will not be permitted beyond region play. 11. Any squad member who leaves the bench area and approaches or engages in a fracas shall be disqualified for the match. For flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct, disqualifications will be for the day. Disqualifications will be reported to the League Office using the ejection report form located in the AD notebook on the League website. 13. Trophies may be awarded to region representatives. Such trophies must not exceed 21 inches in height. 14. Classes AAAA, AAA & AA Play-offs will be in accordance with the regulations found in their Handbook. 15. Class AA will report their representatives to the League Office no later than 9:00 am on October 21. 16. Classes AAAA, AAA & A will report their representatives to the League Office no later than 9:00 am on October 22. 17. Class A Play-off brackets are found B-16. Admission will be $5.00. 18. The State Finals for all classes will be played on November 6, 2010 at White Knoll High School. Each match will be a 3/5 contest. Admission will be $8.00 . Take Part. Get Set For Life.™ Non-team Members, Team Members and Players Rules 2-5, 6-1, 6-2 and 9-1-1 Revised terminology and definitions delineate the difference between non-team members, team members, teammates and players Non-team members – includes but not limited to authorized officials, media personnel (including equipment), and spectators located in playable area Team members – all school representatives in team bench area (coaches, teammates, managers, trainers, etc.) Teammates – all players on the same team in uniform Players – teammates currently on the court Substitution Requests Rules 7-1-2 and 10-1-4 Procedure for substitution prior to the start of the set: • Lineup submitted, deadline for submission has passed and prior to signal for serve • R2 shall recognize request and permit the substitution(s) • after checking the lineup for the requesting team • R2 will administer substitution(s) requested following regular substitution procedure • R2, while checking the lineup, discovers the incorrect player is on the court and does not appear on starting lineup • R2 has the correct player enter the court and incorrect player leave the court without delay • A request for substitution may be made and permitted • R2 completes the lineup check for that team and then administers substitution following regular procedure Substitution Requests Rules 7-1-2 and 10-1-4 • R2, while checking the lineup, discovers the incorrect player on the court and the number of the player listed on the submitted lineup sheet does not exist (e.g. no #12 on team) • R2 completes the lineup check for that team and notifies the head coach of the violation for submitting inaccurate lineup • Confirms the problem/violation with official and visiting scorers • The original player on the court remains on the court • Notifies opposing coach • The offending team is penalized loss of rally/point for submitting an inaccurate lineup to start the set National Federation of State High School Associations 2010 Volleyball Major Editorial Changes Take Part. Get Set For Life.™ Libero Review If not identified on submitted lineup, a libero cannot be designated later for that set May assume position on the court after the original lineup is checked May only be replaced by the player whom he/she replaced Only one libero replacement per dead ball, unless libero is replacing the right back to serve next rally Libero Review Replacement must occur during a dead ball and before the whistle, signal for serve If libero is injured or becomes ill and can’t play, the head coach may designate a new libero player at any time during the rest of the set • The new libero must wear a libero uniform top with unique number not worn by another teammate Libero can’t attempt or complete a block Line Judge Responsibilities and Training Rule 5-8, Officials Manual Part 3-N FLATS – an easy way to remember responsibilities and duties of the line judge Foot faults – indicate foot faults by server Line – indicate ball in/out of bounds when it lands on or near a sideline/end line Antenna – indicate if ball crossing net is not between antennas, if ball touches the net or standards outside antennas, or ball touches antennas Touch – indicate if player touches ball going out of bounds on his/her side of net Stand – where line judges stand during the set, timeouts, server in left third of service area, etc. Timer’s Responsibilities for all Timed Intervals Rule 5-7 Reports to first referee at least 20 minutes before scheduled start time of match Tests the timing device prior to prematch warm-ups Sits at the officials table beside the official scorer Times prematch warm-ups, time between sets and all requested and injury time-outs Timer’s Responsibilities for all Timed Intervals Rule 5-7 Timed Intervals Time-out requested by head coach during set is 60 seconds • Audio signal by timer at 45 seconds • Audio signal at 60 seconds if teams not back on court Injury time-out called by official is 30 seconds • Audio signal by timer at end of 30 seconds unless referees determine otherwise or play has resumed Time between sets is 3 minutes • Start time when R1 signals teams to benches • Deciding set time is started after coin toss and upon R2’s direction • Audio signal by timer at 2:45 minutes • Audio signal by timer at 3:00 minutes if teams have not taken court Conduct of Head Coach While Standing Rule 12-2-6 Only the head coach has privilege to stand during play to provide instruction to players Reminders for During Play Coach is limited to standing in replacement zone and 6 feet away from the sideline Head coach cannot stand in a location that interferes with R2 and line judge performing his/her functions • Head coach may be requested to move if blocking officials If floor space is limited, head coach may stand but shall remain immediately in front of the team bench May enter substitution zone between sets, tend to injured player and change courts Conduct of Head Coach While Standing Rule 12-2-6 Comments shall be directed toward the coach’s players • Comments to match officials not appropriate Head coach is responsible for all team members on the bench Any card issued to the head coach or team members (bench) results in head coach no longer being able to stand during play • Head coach may then only stand under provisions in 12-2-5 Fundamentals of Coaching Volleyball – $50 Concussion in Sports www.nfhslearn.com VOLLEYBALL 2010-2011 July 25 - 29, 2010 .................. Open Season/Open Facility Can practice Can participate in 10 days of school competition and team camps Days spent at team camp(s) count toward the 10 days Nothing Mandatory Unsportsmanlike Conduct Any action(s) that warrants a coach(es) ejection will subject the coach(es) to a minimum next game suspension and the school to a minimum fine of $100. Ejections that subject a player to a next game suspension will result in a minimum of suspension of two (2) games for all sports except football, competitive cheer, swimming, and lacrosse. (i.e. flagrant fouls, malicious contact, spiting, biting, fighting, disrespectfully addressing officials, profanity)
