VJOL – Vietnam Journals Online
• Project VJOL was initiated in June 2006 and officially
•
•
launched in September 2007 with support of INASP
It aims to promote the awareness & use of Vietnampublished journals in all disciplines by providing access
to tables of contents, abstracts and full text on the public
Internet.
VJOL uses the Open Journal System created by the
Public Knowledge Project (University of British Columbia
in Canada). This is an open source and allows the
journal content listed on VJOL to be indexed through
Open Archives Initiative search engines dedicated to
research. It harvests the metadata for each journal
article, making this work readily available to global
audience, and giving the journals greater visibility among
the worldwide research community
VJOL – Vietnam Journals Online
• VJOL provides participating journals the opportunity to
take control of the area within the VJOL: to load, edit
and to update their own journal information.
• VJOL provides information on each participating journal:
aims and scope, contact details and general information,
Tables of contents and abstracts (where available) for all
articles published within these journals. Many full text
articles are also available.
• All the material on VJOL is free to view, search and
browse, however copyright of all content is retained by
the journals or authors – each journal will need to give
permission for any use or re-use of the content that fails
outside Fair Use.
VJOL – Vietnam Journals Online
• As of the January 2008, VJOL has:
- 15 journals (6 joined in 2006 & 9 joined in 2007)
- 47 Tables of Contents listing 499 articles, 330 of the articles are
available in full text (PDF)
- There have been 2,935 people with 3,246 visits to VJOL website
(from Nov 2007 to Jan 2008) (Google Analytics); the visitors to
VJOL came from 82 countries/territories, 29,890 full text articles for
VJOL journals have been downloaded from Aug 2006 to Dec 2007.
- This is a great success of VJOL project at the very starting step!
- At present, VJOL website is hosted in Canada (http://www.vjol.info )
VJOL will be hosted and maintained in Vietnam by NACESTI during
2008.
