Year 2 Parents Induction Meeting

A day in the life of an owl at The Horsell Village School

-Morning jobs.

-Indoor / Outdoor classroom with a Numeracy or Literacy focus based around our current topics.

-Daily mental maths.

-Daily Phonics.

-Lunch -Topic work or P.E in the afternoons.

Group read and handwriting.

Reading in school • At least once each week • Individual or group • Focus on comprehension – inferred, prediction, opinion.

Reading at home • As often as possible • Keep it fun • Communication diary • Level of books • What to read

Literacy • Extended sentences Eg connectives, adjectives, simple, complex and compound sentences • Sustained writing-story telling skills • Writing for an audience • Punctuation e.g. commas in lists, speech • Joined writing • Reflect on texts

Numeracy • Order numbers to a thousand • Fractions • Recognise multiples of numbers, use mental recall of 2,3,4,5,10 x table • Use x and division, including remainders • Inverse operation • Read units of measurement, use notation correctly • Begin to use angles • Applying the above skills in problem solving

Independence • Our focus in year two is to focus independence by letting pupils take responsibility.

Owl Tour • Design and make a owl.

• Write a letter from the owl and include its passport.

• Send the owl on its first flight, then the recipient send on to another address.

• We hope the owls return by June.

• It will result in a class atlas recording all the places visited.
