A Sneak Peak at the Testing Floor What is an IHE Connectathon? What is an IHE Connectathon? • Lollapalooza of Health IT Interoperability o 5 days of interoperability testing o 500+ industry engineers o 11 continents o 100+ companies o 160 systems • Cross-vendor, live, supervised and structured testing event o Vendors implemented IHE Integration Profiles o Test interoperability with multiple industry partner systems o Work is overseen by technical management team & 70 trained monitors o Radiology modality system can test with 5 RIS, 10 PACS, 20 Displays in 5 days What is an IHE Connectathon? • Interoperability problem resolution o Resolve bugs with test writers and standard experts on-site o Utilize full logging details and common set of test scripts- based on IHE Profiles and clinical scenarios o Problems are resolved in 5 minutes rather than 5 months • High powered testing event! o 5,000+ vendor-to-vendor connections; 10,000+ transactions o $2.0 million of testing efforts [500 engineers x 8 hrs/day x 5 days = 20,000 engineer-hours x $100/hr - not including prep and setup time] • Interoperability initiatives o Expanding to include IHE USA Certification, Continua, new IHE Domains and more o Details announced in August 2013 Develop tech. specs Testing at IHE Connectathons HIMSS Demos featuring IHE Products with IHE Identify available standards Document Use Case Requirem ents Improved safety, quality & efficiency! IHE NA Connectathon 2013 • • • • • • • 500 engineers 11 different countries 114 organizations 162 test systems 62 volunteer test monitors 3,737 tests were completed, then marked ‘verified’ 1,096 profile/actor pairs were reported with a "Passed" status. These represent the IHE capabilities successfully tested in the participants' test systems. • 118 vendors will continue on to promote their success at the HIMSS13 Interoperability Showcase, demonstrating 111 systems Preparing for CAT14 Testing • What happens on-site and after CAT testing? • Benefits of testing at IHE NA CAT • Registration Schedule & Steps – Education & Test Selection – Contracting – Pre-CAT Testing Requirments What happens at on-site at CAT? • Settle at the Hyatt Regency Chicago and set-up on the testing floor – 70,000 square feet of engineering brain power – Aisle after aisle • 500 engineers • 250 computer laptops • Countless wires, imaging equipment, devices • Coffee cups and water bottles Next Log into Gazelle • IHE International’s web-based software system to manage testing – http://ihe.wustl.edu/gazelle-na/home.seam • Gazelle assigns set of required tests for each profile / actor – Execute each test with 3 peer systems • Gazelle identifies candidate test partners; vendors choose • Vendors run tests, enter results in Gazelle • USA’s Connectathon monitors examine individual test results What happens at on-site at CAT? • Collaborative event • Vendors work non-stop to ensure their systems interoperate by close the event • Complete as many test requirements – Initial “failures” can be fixed and retested later in the week – Opportunity to find problems in products and in the profiles • Competitors work cooperatively to debug system code and work towards success What happens at on-site at CAT? • Organizations set priorities and manage your time – IHE USA can advise but do not babysit – IHE USA does not guarantee all tests will be completed – Some organizations drop IHE Profiles… Better to pass 5, then fail 8 What happens after the CAT? • Monitor reviewed tests are examined by technical management o Not all tests submitted are reviewed by monitors o Management grads tests pass / fail based on successful criteria in IHE’s test plans and assigns grades • Vendors given opportunity for rebuttal • Results posted on CAT Test Result Database o http://connectathon-results.ihe.net/ CAT Results Database- Fine Print • Management grades tests pass / fail based on success criteria in IHE’s test plans and assigns grades • IHE USA publishes which actor/integration profile pairs each organization has tested • IHE USA does not publish failures • IHE USA does not publish product names or software releases • IHE USA is not a certification body or government testing body • IHE USA does not guarantee conformance • IHE USA does not endorse any vendors based on test results • IHE USA does not guarantee participation in IHE demonstrations How do you define success at CAT?
