- The simple subject names the person, place, thing, or idea the sentence is about .
Modifying words are not part of the simple subject; however, it may be more than one word when it is a compound noun (high school) or a proper noun (North America) - EX: Jaws is a good movie.
- EX: John Lennon wrote many songs.
- EX: One of my friends plays the trumpet.
