Choose one prompt to respond to and explain with detail:

and definitions in your notebook (words inside the left

– Write your own sentences using the vocabulary words
– Make sure your sentences are detailed enough to prove to
me you understand what the word means. Be creative!

• Pre-reading activity:
– What do I already know about symbolism? What does a
fox usually symbolize?
– Looking at the picture on page. 85, what do you think
the story will be about?
• Popcorn read Fox Hunt (pg. 85) discussing along
the way.
• Groups of four discuss and hand in one sheet of
paper with answers:
– Did you like the blending of legend and reality in this

• In a discussion, only one person should be talking at
one time.
• EVERYONE should share their ideas and opinions.
• EVERYONE should feel respected.
• EVERYONE stays on task.
• EVERYONE should contribute their skills and talents.

Roles of Groups (ALL members should be at some point):
• INFORMATION SEEKER asks for clarification on facts.
• OPINION SEEKER asks for a clarification of values or opinions.
• INFORMATION GIVER offers facts or generalizations which are
"authoritative" or relates his/her own experience pertinent to the
group problem.
• OPINION GIVER states his/her belief pertinent to a suggestion
made. The emphasis is on what s/he believes should be the
group's view of pertinent values, not primarily upon relevant facts
or information.
• ENERGIZER prods the group to action or decision, attempts to
stimulate or arouse the group to "greater" or "higher quality"
activity.
• RECORDER writes down suggestions, makes a record of group
decisions, or writes down the product of discussion.
• ENCOURAGER praises, agrees with, and accepts the contribution
of the others.

Collaborative Groups
• You will each participate in a task-oriented small group
project.
• I will grade the group, but you will also be grading your
peers! Grade them on:
– Time on task, contributions, persuasiveness, and
respectfulness
• BASICALLY, PROVE TO ME YOU UNDERSTAND THE
CONCEPT OF GOOD GROUP WORK AND GROUP ROLES.
Thursday: Collaborative Groups
• In your assigned groups you will:
1. Discuss/decide on a product to invent.
2. Create a miniature prototype for the product using
materials provided.
3. Come up with an advertisement using comic-strip paper.
• You only have today to work on this so use your time
wisely and assign homework to group members if needed.
• Tomorrow you will present and Sister Amina and I will be
your judges.
• I will grade you on:
– Time on task and participation of ALL group members.
– Persuasiveness of presentation.
– Creativity of product and design.
– Comic-strip/advertising idea
