PV Technology Platform (1)
• The Photovoltaic Technology Platform is an initiative
which aims at mobilizing all the actors sharing a longterm European vision for photovoltaic; realizing the
European Strategic Research Agenda for PV for the next
decade(s) and give recommendations for implementation;
ensuring that Europe maintains industrial leadership.

• Contribute to a rapid development of a world-class
cost competitive European PV for a sustainable
electricity production
• Involve stakeholders in the formulation of
research programs

industry, research and market.

Strategic Plan:
• Implementing a Strategic Research Agenda (SRA)
• Coordinating PV research programs
• Facilitating deployment measures (energy policies,
overcoming barriers to trade and export, develop education
and training schemes)

Objectives:
• To ensure the definition and the implementation of an
action plan for each group with the view to reach the
goals set in the Strategic Plan.

Work Group 3:
Science, technology & applications
Objectives:
• Define (widely accepted) technical needs for development
of PV
• Enable large-scale application with a major role for
European stakeholders
• Develop Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) as input for FP7
• Contribute to the establishment of a EU PV Research Area
(PV-ERA)

Work Group 4:
Developing countries
Objectives:
• Develop a long term strategy for promoting PV and
contributing to poverty alleviation
• Create a clear program and policy for sustainable
development
• Lobby to keep motivation for these markets
• Determine concrete quantitative and qualitative targets to
be achieved

Work Group 4:
Developing countries (2)
• Create sustainable poles of development by creating local
infrastructures, committing local people and ensure
feasible projects
• Need for communication for all stakeholders
• Identify promotion channels and increase awareness of PV
by tackling the perception problems of inhabitants
• Mobilize all existing actions and create synergies in favor
of people who do not have access to electricity

Main Objectives (2)
• Coordination and the representation (or inclusion) of
relevant national, regional or local initiatives and
activities under the technology platform
• Input to the Steering Committee and Working
Groups from a national, regional or local
perspective.
• Advance the European Research Area by initiating
activities for closer coordination and co-operation
between national and regional programs

Role of the Commission (5)
• The European Commission will be fully associated
with the Group
• Will provide input to the process from the point of
view of the Institution
• Initial secretarial support to the Mirror Group
through organizing and convening meetings to start
the process

An indicative number of two to four plenary meetings
might be held per year
•
Decisions will be taken by consensus as far as possible
•
If no consensus can be reached the chairperson might
consider calling for a vote.
•
The summary report of each meeting shall be drawn up
by the Secretary of the Group
•
The group members shall send any written comments
they may have on the summary report to the Chairperson
and the Secretary

• Any group member who does not provide any comments
within 2 weeks will be considered to have given his or her
tacit agreement to the report
• If there are any disagreements, the proposed modifications
may be discussed at the next plenary meeting of the Group
at the discretion of the Chairperson.
• Correspondence relating to the Group shall be addressed to
the attention of the Group Secretary with copy to the
Chairperson preferably by e-mail
• Correspondence for Group members shall be addressed to
all the delegates
