Italy
Italy is famous for its amazing shape: it’s
like a boot!
It’s one of the peninsulas bordered by the
Mediterranean Sea.
Italy and Pisa
Pisa is one of the most beautiful cities
of Tuscany. Tuscany is famous around
the world for its historical monuments
and for its landscapes; but it’s also
famous for the people who were born
in this region like Galileo Galilei and
Leonardo da Vinci. Our school has
been named after Leonardo da Vinci.
Pisa is well known everywhere for the
Leaning Tower and for Miracle Square
(Piazza dei Miracoli)
Pisa
Pisa and the Arno River
The town of Pisa is crossed by the Arno river, one of the main
Italian rivers. The Arno is the 4th Italian river for both length and
importance.

Arno
The Arno river crosses
the town of Pisa
The river Arno divides the city in two
parts called “Tramontana” (north)
and “Mezzogiorno”(south).
Various bridges connect the two
parts, the most important is the
central one called “Ponte di mezzo”
(Middle Bridge).
Arno River and its mouth
Pisa rises a few
kilometers from the
mouth of the Arno
river (9.300 mi). The
Arno in fact
flows
into the Tyrrhenian
Sea at ”Marina
of
Pisa” .
The I.T.I.S. “Leonardo da Vinci” is a
State High School for Industrial
Technology
Our school is very
old, it was founded in
1871 , at the
beginning of the
Kingdom of Italy.
After many changes,
the school was
rebuilt and
transformed during
the fascist period: the
particular shape of M
is due to the fascist
leader Mussolini.
