Let’s talk about what’s new in
eSubmission and eRA Commons…then
we’ll test your knowledge and memory!

“refresher":
What is eRA Commons?
The eRA Commons is an online interface where grant
applicants, grantee organizations, grantees and federal
staff can access, share, and transmit administrative
information related to their applications and grants.

Electronic Administrative Function Requests
• NIH now accepts several new
administrative function requests
electronically
– Administrative Supplement (Type 3)
– Successor in Interest (Type 6)
– Change of Institution (Type 7
• Submissions must be made to active FOA
– Parent Announcement page has general use
FOAs
• http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/parent_announce
ments.htm
9
Speak to awarding institute prior to submitting.
Electronic Administrative Function Requests
• If competing applications for an activity code can
be submitted electronically, then administrative
function requests for that activity code can also
be submitted electronically
– http://grants.nih.gov/grants/ElectronicReceipt/files/ele
ctronic_activity_code_table.pdf
10
Administrative Supplement Requests (Type 3s)
• Submission options
– SF424 (R&R) application forms & standard
Grants.gov submission process
• Great for system-to-system users
– Streamlined eRA Commons process
• Commons pre-populates much of the data needed
for request from awarded grant
– Paper process

(Type 3)
13
Change of Institution (Type 7) Requests
• Old institution submits Relinquishing Statement
electronically through eRA Commons
Search for grant to
relinquish
Manage Relinquishing
Statement
• New institution submits app request through
Grants.gov
14
Successor in Interest (Type 6)
• Application request submitted through
Grants.gov
– Application package has been streamlined to
include only a few required forms
15
Account Management in Commons
The account management process stays the
same, but the interface has a new look and
feel.
16
Delegation Management in Commons
All Delegation functionality has been moved
to a single tab under the Admin tab, thus
providing you one place to manage all
delegations.
17
Looking Ahead: eSubmission
• Electronic Submission of NIH’s complex,
multi-project applications
– Application Submission System & Interface for
Submission Tracking (ASSIST)
– If you would like to participate in
user acceptance testing, please

Looking Ahead: Commons
• Research Performance Progress Report
– A federal mandate requiring the use of a federal-wide
research performance progress report (RPPR) for
submission of performance reporting on federallyfunded research projects.
– Will eventually replace eSNAP
– Currently in pilot
• Financial Conflict of Interest
– Updating current system to include new reporting
requirements
– Implementing in June
