Borrowing Books and DVDs
Borrowing Books and DVDs
You may borrow up to 8 items at a time (or 10 if you are a
higher education student).
The loan period for most items is 3 weeks with the exception of some 1
week loan books.
Please bring your card with you to borrow items.
If the item you want is not available you can reserve it, using the library
catalogue or at the desk.
If you cannot find a book, journal article or report you are looking for we
can request items from the British Library for a small fee. Please ask at
the desk.
Renewing Items
Renewing items to avoid fines!
Items can be renewed up to 4 times unless someone is waiting for them.
You can renew items by:
1. Asking at the LRC Help desk

Overdue items will be charged at 5p per day, per item.
Please remember to return your books on time.
IT Facilities
IT Facilities
The computers in the LRC’s should be used
mainly for research and college assignments.
All PCs have the standard Microsoft Office
software installed such as Word, Excel,
Publisher and PowerPoint.
If you need assistance in the use of any software please ask a member of
staff.
In addition to the standard office software we also offer support in specialist
software such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe
Premier Video Editing software. Please ask a member of staff for details.
All students have a home area on the network which should be used to save
work.
IT Facilities
Assistive Technology
Calderdale College supports accessibility in IT and the
LRC offers support in a range of Assistive Technology
software and hardware.
The software includes Dragon Naturally Speaking
which is voice recognition software, Jaws screen
reading software, Read & Write Gold and Wordbar.
The hardware includes special keyboards, mice and screen overlays.
For any help and advice or to arrange training please ask a
member of staff who will put you in touch with Nick Wareham.
IT Facilities

course.
The cost of printing A4 is 5p per sheet in Black & White
and 25p per sheet in colour.
The cost of printing A3 is 10p per sheet in Black &
White and 50p per sheet in colour.
Every time a student prints the cost is automatically deducted from their printer

This password can be changed at any LRC Help desk or alternatively at the Ctrl +
Alt + Del screen when logging on.
If a password is entered incorrectly three times the account is automatically locked
out. When this happens go to any LRC Help desk to get the account unlocked.

Expected Behaviour
We try to keep rules to a minimum, but we need to have some to ensure the
LRCs are suitable areas conducive to study for everyone…..
Please do not bring food and drink into the area – however, bottled water is
permitted for hydration
 Respectful Behaviour – please be aware and considerate of the people
around you by not disturbing them……
o Keep Mobile phones on silent – any phone calls should be taken or made
outside the LRCs
o You are free to listen to music, but it should not be audible to anyone else
o Keep any conversations at a low level so as not to distract others – the
LRCs are places for you to study – social areas are provided elsewhere in
College
o We will always treat you with dignity and respect and we expect you to
treat us in the same manner

Please abide by these rules or you will be asked to leave
