ANCA Overall Purpose

•To promote Army Nursing

ANCA History

• 1976 – Group of retired AN’s met in San Antonio, TX to explore ways they could continue the camaraderie and esprit of the Army Nurse Corps once they had retired.

• Thus Retired Army Nurse Corps Association (RANCA) formed and then incorporated in state of Texas. • 2000- Changed name to ANCA to better reflect composition of membership

ANCA Education Fund

• ANCA Board of Directors voted to provide $30,000 for 2012 scholarship program. Amount of 2013 allocation to be determined.

Scholarships

• The ANCA Education Fund awards scholarships to qualified baccalaureate, graduate, or anesthesia nursing students. • Scholarships have been awarded in memory of CPT Bruce Clark, CPT Joshua McClimans, CPT Maria Munoz and CPT Gussie Jones. Others include LTC Berrettini, LTC Warman, CPT Seager and CPT Gaffaney. Each was an Army nurse who died while deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan.

Scholarship Eligibility

• Provides scholarships to qualified students in accredited baccalaureate, advanced degree or anesthesia nursing programs.

Priorities:

– Nursing students who have served or are serving in any branch of the Active Army, Army National Guard or Army Reserve.

Scholarship Eligibility Priorities

– ANC officers from any US Army component attending graduate programs who are not funded by the U.S. Army – Enlisted soldiers in any component of the US Army who are working toward a BSN or higher degree in nursing.

– Nursing students whose spouse or parent(s) have served or are serving in a component of the US Army.

Vietnam nurses recognized at Heroes Welcome Home, Fayetteville, NC – 37 veterans in attendance, many were ANCA members.

Assisted Washington Center for Nursing in contacting ANCA members for newsletter dedicated to Washington, State Military nurses.
