1. Selecting the harvest:
• Herbs--we will harvest these from the garden and
dry them. You need to study their characteristics
so you understand their use.

but we will choose them. You need to study their
characteristics to help you make your choices.

2. Preparing the harvest:
• We will use the following plant preparation

• Oil infusion
• Water infusion (tea)
• Drying
• Essential oil 50lbs plant=1oz oil
• Tincture
• Steam distillation

• Other: honey, BRING A MUG!

• Shampoo / Body wash. We will use the
following:

• Chamomile
• Lavender
• Rosemary
• Essential Oils: you choose from the list based on
your research (maximum of 20 drops total)
• Other: base shampoo, honey, lemon, aloe, BRING
A SHAMPOO BOTTLE!
3. Using the Harvest
• Gardener’s Lip and Hand Balm. We will use the
following:
• Herbs: Calendula
• Comfrey
• Plantain
• Rose
• Essential Oils: you choose from the list based on
your research (maximum of 10 drops total)
• Other: beeswax, lanolin, olive and coconut oil,
tin/tube will be provided
Discussion/ to consider:
• What parts of a plant can be harvested? (List at least 4)
• Use your ecological knowledge to explain why plants
bear fruit.
• Use your ecological knowledge to explain why plants
generally "don't want" us to eat vegetables (as defined
botanically).
• Use your ecological knowledge to explain why plants
have medicinal properties.
