RECYCLING
IN POLAND
Definition of recycling

It is one of the methods of environmental
protection. Its aim is to limit the
consumption of natural resources and the
reduction of waste.
There are three types of
recycling:



Reusing - repeated use of material or a product for
the same purpose (e.g.retreading of tires, bottles for
exchange),
Further application - use of waste for new
applications after suitable physical, chemical or
biological alteration (e.g. granulation of waste plastics
and tires, where granular material is used as a filler in
building materials),
Reutilization - chemical recycling of waste and
reintroducing them to the production (e.g. use of car
wrecks in steelworks).
Rubbish Act
The Act was passed by the Polish Parliament and became
operative on the 1st January, 2012.
It establishes the rules of the management of waste, which
describe the role of consumers and producers in the
recycling process.
According to the law, the consumer is required to sort waste,
thus he pays lower bills for rubbish disposal. However,
manufacturers are obliged to convert and recycle waste.
Thanks to this Act places of sale (stores, warehouses etc.,
have to use biodegradable and reusable bags instead of
plastic packaging. Great emphasis is placed on promoting
ecological packaging by means of leaflets, posters,
billboards, etc.
Recycling in Poland
Here is what the Poles are doing to reduce the amount of waste:
 We choose durable products,
 We use reusable bags,
 Instead of using normal batteries we use rechargeable ones,
 They select glass bottles instead of paper,

They avoid products packaged in several layers of packaging,
 Instead of plastic plates and cutlery for example, used during a
barbecue, they choose metal and reusable cutlery,
 From the waste they produce: tissues, toilet paper, cups, pots,
earrings, baskets, handbags and even furniture, and clothes.
Rules Management of Waste
in Poland:





waste prevention,
reducing the amount of waste,
reducing the negative impact of waste on the
environment,
providing recycling which is consistent with the
principles of environmental protection,
providing neutralization of waste, which could not be
recycled (the process consistent with the principles
of environmental protection).

Recycling in Malopolska
Every year a festival of the recycling is
held in our province.
There are always a lot of important
guests at the festival, as well as
residents of Cracow and near areas.
The idea of the festival is to promote
recycling as an opportunity for reasonable
and ecological management of the Earth's
limited natural resources.
Famous vocalists always arrive for this festival. They
sing songs as well as motivate people to sort rubbish.
The participants of the festival who will bring sorted
waste they will get a seedling of tree.
Recycling at school
We organize the collection of waste paper, PET
bottles, household packaging and foil. The
purpose of the collection is to clean the place we
live. It is the part of our school action called „Let
us save the world together". They offer
educational campaigns to raise awareness to
students the importance of waste sorting and
recycling. Numerous educational actions are
arranged in order to make pupils aware how
sorting of rubbish and recycling are important.
There are organized collections of
recyclable materials in our school :

Action: Be ecological friendly and
collect glass

Action: For the sake of the nature we
collect batteries.
Action: We collect waste
paper to protect the
environment
Action: Collecting bottle caps
Action: Collecting plastic
bottles
World Earth Day

The main topic of the event is „Let us protect
endangered species." Junior high school
students took part in the eco-fashion show. It
turned out that it was possible to make
something interesting from a great amount of
rubbish.

Lecture connected with ecology and
wildlife conservation
The lecture was conducted by
representatives of the Group of
Landscape Parks in Małopolska region.
The aim of that lecture was to raise
awareness of the importance of our
waste sorting.

packaging of products that make it easy
to separate their waste
Waste and rubbish are
utilized in other areas of life.
One of those areas is art.
RECYCLING IN ART
Let us show you well-known
Polish artists who use
rubbish as artistic material
in their creative work :
Remigiusz Dulko
His works of art
Alina Szapocznikow
.
She was one of the most original and contemporary
sculptors. Her sculptures were made of melted plastic of
recycled scrap. She mixed different materials to get
textural variety.
