SKAL WORLD CONGRESS
Candidature
ROME 2016
Proposal to host the
77° Skal World Congress
Rome
November 03 - 07, 2016
Presented by
SKAL INTERNATIONAL ROMA
Club n. 52
in cooperation with
PCO - Professional Congress Organiser
A MEMBER OF SKAL INTERNATIONAL ROMA
WHY ROME
Probably the best description of Rome comes from Henry James’s “Letters” :
“ … at last, for the first time, I live ….. Rome beats everything: it leaves the
Rome of your fancy, your education, nowhere. It makes Venice, Florence,
Oxford, London seem like little cities of the pasteboard … for the first time
I know what the picturesque is”
The idea of proposing Rome as the site for the 77° Skal International
World Congress arouse because Rome has become a totally new city and a
metropolis of international standing. Major investments have been made to
update services and infrastructure, refurbish the main historical palaces,
enlarge streets, improve the city traffic and the quality of life.
WHY ROME
As compared to the other Italian and international cities, Rome surely can offer
services and accommodation facilities of utmost quality and efficiency.
Rome – recently defined as the best known, most visited and beloved Italian city
in the world – can surely meet your expectation and contribute to a successful
event…
DO IT AS THE ROMANS DO
We do feel that Rome will be a most suitable choice for the event both from a
strategic and communication point of view as well as from a logistic point
of view (high number of accommodation facilities, flexible structures,
easy reach and availability of means of transportation at domestic and
international level). Rome has also a very mild weather and this will
surely contribute to make a participants’ stay more enjoyable.
We are firmly convinced that the appeal of a city like Rome rich in history,
culture and extremely charming stretches of urban landscape is a key
element, capable of enhancing the event’s overall strategy, as well as the
Congress image, providing an exceptional backdrop to all aspects of the
Congress itself.

The Underground Railways (called Metropolitana by residents). Rome’s

Getting around Rome
Renting bikes or scooters
Although most of the sights in Rome are within walking distance or
accessible by public transportation, two wheels will give you the freedom
to see exactly what interest you, and in less time.
To really "do as the Romans do", you have to drive around on a Vespa. You'll
have no trouble finding rental places all around the city.
Taxis
Taxis in Rome are provided with taxi-meters. Licensed taxis are hired from
ranks.

CONGRESS PLANNING
AND SCHEDULE
The Congress Site
“You should not ask million of people to come to Rome on foot, but
once people arrive by train, by plane or by car you can provide
opportunities for them to quietly walk in the city. You may involve
Romans in rediscovering overlooked and ignored places and
meanings. This can be done every day in all times consistent with
everybody life. Thus, you discover that many of us want to stop
being foreign if not strangers to the Eternal City”.
That’s why for the first time we are glad to offer you the
opportunity to live the city without any problem of traffic, long
queues and attending the working sessions in a structure which
dates back 1477.
As far as the venue for the 77° Skal International World Congress is
concerned, the Local Committee has identified the Complex of
Santo Spirito in Saxia in city centre, close by the Vatican, the
historical centre and walking distance from many hotels.
THE CONGRESS SITE
The Monumental Complex of Santo Spirito in Saxia (1477)
The Complesso Monumentale Santo Spirito in Sassia is an
important crossroad between classical and contemporany
art.
In particular the project S P I R I T O DUE, conceived and
curated by Valentina Ciarallo, is aimed at promoting
national and international artists who are asked to realize
site-specific installations or performances that challange the
exceptional exhibition space.
S P I R I T O DUE originality is based on its unique venue:
an ancient hospital dating back to VIII century A.D. that was
subsequently refurbished under the pontificate of Pope
Sisto IV, during the second half of XV century. It is today one
of the most suggestive and reknown historical places of the
city of Rome.
Opening Ceremony
Auditorium della Conciliazione
Auditorium della Conciliazione is located nearby
the Congress Venue and St. Peter Basilica.
President’s Gala Dinner
Palazzo dei Congressi
The Palazzo dei Congressi is one of the most celebrated
and representative examples of rationalist architecture.
Designed by the architect Adalberto Libera, it is the ideal
location to host any type of event. Its large and versatile
spaces allow for the rearrangement and tailoring of areas
according to any custumer need. The halls, unique for the
spectacular beauty of their marble that blends modernity
with tradition, offer endless solutions for fairs,
conventions, conference, exibition and dinner.
