The Base Operating Standards project will review the application of Phase 1 of the WCM project will deliver interventions at 30 suppliers. TS16949 amongst suppliers, and give recommendations on how the standard can be better employed to build adherence amongst suppliers to expected base standards of operation. Localisation activities are currently focused on identifying specific opportunities for localising product. ASCCI has undertaken analysis to identify product subsectors that offer the greatest opportunity for localising content based on capability (technology and skills) already available locally. Through July and August, ASCCI will meet with each OEM to unpack specific localisation opportunities, to determine potential projects for consideration. 41% of content in locally produced vehicles is local 3 High level research findings… 2 Supplier capability ASCCI has worked with OEMs to determine the priority value chains that will benefit from WCM interventions. These interventions will be launched in July at firms within the identified value chains. Qualifications for hand assemblers, operators and machine setters are not aligned to equipment / processes in the production of automotive components. ASCCI is supporting an industry driven project to revise the qualifications to ensure the standards are in place to develop the required skills. Strategic insights has recently concluded research to identify key lessons for regional economic development support to the automotive sector.
