The End Times
The Holocaust and
the Olivet Discourse
Matthew 24

The Holocaust

Olivet Discourse
?
Matthew 24:1 Then Jesus went out and departed
from the temple, and His disciples came up to
show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And
Jesus said to them,
“Do you not see all these things? Assuredly,
I say to you, not one stone shall be left here
upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”
Destruction of the Second Temple
The Second Temple of Yeshua’s day
was constructed by Herod was
destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D.
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the
disciples came to Him privately, saying,
“Tell us, when will these things be?
And what will be the sign of Your coming,
and of the end of the age?”
15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken
of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever
reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea
flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go
down to take anything out of his house. 18 And let him who is in
the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who
are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the
Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has
not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor
ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh
would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be
shortened.
22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh
would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be
shortened.
Daniel 9: 27
Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one SEVEN;
But in the middle of the SEVEN
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one
deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am
the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars
and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these
things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation
will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there
will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
1. Up until the period of the End Times there are various local wars
and conflicts.
2. The Beginning of the “End Times” will occur after NATION
AGAINST NATION, AND KINGDOM AGAINST KINGDOM.
3. World War I and World War II Mark the Beginning of Sorrows.
1. Multinational Conflict involved most of the World
2. Implications: Holocaust and the State of Israel
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you
will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then
many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one
another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive
many.
12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow
cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And
this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a
witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
1. Horrific Time on Earth
2. Characterized by deception
3. All JewishSurvivors will be Saved
4. Jewish Evangelism will result in Gentile
Salvations
Exodus 28:
“If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law
that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and
awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD, 59 then the Lord will bring
upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues—great and
prolonged plagues—and serious and prolonged sicknesses.
58
64
65
“Then the Lord will scatter you among all peoples…
And among those nations you shall find no rest, nor shall the sole
of your foot have a resting place; but there the Lord will give you
a trembling heart, failing eyes, and anguish of soul. 66 Your life
shall hang in doubt before you; you shall fear day and night, and
have no assurance of life. 67 In the morning you shall say, ‘Oh,
that it were evening!’ And at evening you shall say, ‘Oh, that it
were morning!’ because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and
because of the sight which your eyes see.
Leviticus 26:33
33
I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you;
your land shall be desolate and your cities waste.
34
Then the land shall enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate
and you are in your enemies’ land;
then the land shall rest and enjoy its sabbaths.
35
As long as it lies desolate it shall rest—
for the time it did not rest on your sabbaths when you dwelt in it.
36
‘And as for those of you who are left, I will send faintness into their
hearts in the lands of their enemies;
the sound of a shaken leaf shall cause them to flee;
they shall flee as though fleeing from a sword, and they shall fall
when no one pursues.
37
They shall stumble over one another, as it were before a sword,
when no one pursues;
and you shall have no power to stand before your enemies.
38
You shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies
shall eat you up.
39
And those of you who are left shall waste away in their iniquity in
your enemies’ lands;
also in their fathers’ iniquities, which are with them, they shall waste
away.
Leviticus 26:40
But! If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their
unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have
walked contrary to Me,
41
and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought
them into the land of their enemies; if their uncircumcised hearts
are humbled, and they accept their guilt—
42
then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and My covenant
with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham I will remember;
I will remember the land.
Leviticus 26:43
43
The land also shall be left empty by them, and will enjoy its
sabbaths while it lies desolate without them;
they will accept their guilt, because they despised My judgments
and because their soul abhorred My statutes.
44
Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not
cast them away, nor shall I abhor them, to utterly destroy them and
break My covenant with them;for I am the Lord their God.
45
But for their sake I will remember the covenant of their ancestors,
whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations,
that I might be their God: I am the Lord.’ ”
The Shepherd Savior
Zechariah 13:7

9
“Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,
Against the Man who is My Companion,”
Says the Lord of hosts.
“Strike the Shepherd,
And the sheep will be scattered;
Then I will turn My hand against the little ones.
And it shall come to pass in all the land,”
Says the Lord,
“That two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die,
But one-third shall be left in it:
I will bring the one-third through the fire,
Will refine them as silver is refined,
And test them as gold is tested.
They will call on My name,
And I will answer them.
I will say, ‘This is My people’;
And each one will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’ ”
Zechariah14
Behold, the day of the Lord is coming,
2
3
4
And your spoil will be divided in your midst.
For I will gather all the nations to battle against
Jerusalem;
The city shall be taken,
The houses rifled,
And the women ravished.
Half of the city shall go into captivity,
But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the
city.
Then the Lord will go forth
And fight against those nations,
As He fights in the day of battle.
And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,
Which faces Jerusalem on the east.
And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two,
From east to west,
Making a very large valley;
Half of the mountain shall move toward the north
And half of it toward the south.
Yom HaShoah
During the Holocaust
1/3 of the World Jewish
Population was Annihilated
The Holocaust (1941-45)
• Of the 60 million World War II deaths, 11
million people died in German death camps
including 3.5 million Russians, and 6 million
Jews (2/3rds of all European Jews)
• The word Holocaust was given to the killing of
the 6 million Jews because it was a war of
extermination designed to wipe out an entire
group of people.
– Hitler’s “Final Solution”
– Systematic genocide
Holocaust Chronology
• Jan 30, 1933 - Adolf Hitler is appointed Chancellor of
Germany a nation with a Jewish population of 566,000.
• March 22, 1933 - Nazis open Dachau concentration camp
near Munich, to be followed by Buchenwald near Weimar in
central Germany, Sachsenhausen near Berlin in northern
Germany, and Ravensbrück for women.
• April 1, 1933 - Nazis stage boycott of Jewish shops and
businesses.
• April 11, 1933 - Nazis issue a decree defining a non-Aryan as

to concentration camps.
• Sept 15, 1935 - Nuremberg Race Laws against Jews
decreed.
Nuremberg Race Laws of 1935
• Deprived German Jews of their rights of
citizenship, giving them the status of "subjects" in
Hitler's Reich.
– The laws also made it forbidden for Jews to marry or have
sexual relations with Aryans.
• The Nuremberg Laws had the unexpected result
of causing confusion and heated debate over
who was a "full Jew."
– The Nazis settled on defining a "full Jew" as a person with
three Jewish grandparents. Those with less were
designated as Mischlinge.
– After the Nuremberg Laws of 1935, a dozen supplemental
Nazi decrees were issued that eventually outlawed the
Jews completely, depriving them of their rights as human
beings.

Army liberates Dachau.
The
Holocaust
(1941-45)
• There have been many massacres during the
course of world history. And the Nazis murdered
many non-Jews in concentration camps.
• What is unique about Hitler’s “Final Solution of the
Jewish Problem,” was the Nazi’s determination to
murder without exception every single Jew who
came within grasp, and the fanaticism, ingenuity,
and cruelty with which they pursued their goal.

Great Tribulation
Matthew 24:15
22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh
would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be
shortened.
23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’
do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise
and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even
the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand.
26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not
go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.
27
For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west,
so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
28
For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles (vultures) will be
gathered together.
29
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be
darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall
from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30
Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then
all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son
of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great
glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a
trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four
winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Daniel 7:13
13
14
“I was watching in the night visions,
And behold, One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought Him near before Him.
Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a
kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion,
Which shall not pass away,
And His kingdom the one
Which shall not be destroyed.
Judgment of the Gentile Nations
Matthew 25:31
31
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels
with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the
nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them
one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the
goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the
goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right
hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom
prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was
hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me
drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and
you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison
and you came to Me.’
Judgment of the Gentile Nations
37
“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we
see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38
When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and
clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and
come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them,
‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the
least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
41
“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me,
you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and
his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was
thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you
did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in
prison and you did not visit Me.’
44
“Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You
hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not
minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say
to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you
did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting
punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
God Judges the Gentile Nations
Joel 3:1
2
3
“For behold, in those days and at that time,
When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem,
I will also gather all nations,
And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat;
And I will enter into judgment with them there
On account of My people, My heritage Israel,
Whom they have scattered among the nations;
They have also divided up My land.
They have cast lots for My people,
Have given a boy as payment for a harlot,
And sold a girl for wine, that they may drink.
Kaddish
Mourner’s Kaddish
We pause on this Day of Remembrance to
remember our loved ones, from whom we have
been separated by death, but to whom we remain
close through the binding links of memory.
Mourner’s Kaddish
We are grateful, O God, for our capacity to
remember, for the ability to retain in treasured
possession that which we once held dear. We
are grateful for the precious things which death
cannot take from us — the lessons and
experiences which our loved ones shared with us
and bequeathed to us. Above all, we are grateful
for the assurance that “there is no forgetting
before You,” that our loved ones are held in
everlasting remembrance.
Mourner’s Kaddish
May the memories of those whom we lovingly
recall: father, mother, husband, wife, son,
daughter, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild,
friend inspire us to lead lives remembering.
(Pause.........)
In tribute to our departed, those who mourn now
rise to praise Your holy Name.
All:
Magnified and sanctified be His great name in
the world which He has created according to
His will. May He establish His kingdom soon, in
your lifetime and during your days, and during
the life of the entire house of Israel, even swiftly
and soon; and let us say, Amen.
May His great name be blessed forever and to
all eternity.
All:
Blessed, praised, and glorified, exalted,
extolled and honored, magnified and lauded be
the name of the Holy One, blessed is He,
though He be high above all blessings and
songs, praises, and consolations which are
uttered in the world, and say, Amen.
May He Who makes peace in His high places
make peace upon us and upon all Israel, and
say, Amen.
Offerings and
Announcements
So let each one give as he
purposes in his heart, not
grudgingly or of necessity; for
God loves a cheerful giver.
