Math Adoption Committee

Roles in our meetings

Facilitator

Starts and ends the meeting Calls on team members or starts round robin process Keeps discussion on target without dominating the conversation Helps search for and suggests compromise solutions Helps resolve conflict between team members •

Recorder

Writes down ideas as they are expressed Frames comments so they can be understood by all Checks accuracy of perceptions Helps give a sense of direction and completion Helps people feel their concerns have been heard Distributes a written record of the meeting •

Process Observer

Helps to keep the team focused throughout the meeting Helps to clarify what worked and what didn’t Helps us look at our dynamics •

Time Keeper

Periodically reminds team members of time constraints Keeps team meetings focused on the tasks at hand Asks whether people are ready to move to decision Helps team members shorten their comments Identifies when more time is needed for discussion Recommends time allocation for future agendas.

New Course Sequence

6 th Grade: IMT 1 (CMP2) 7 th Grade: IMT 2 (CMP2) 8 th Grade: Algebra 1 (Discovering or Holt) 9 th Grade: Geometry (Discovering or Holt) 10 th Grade: Algebra 2 (Discovering or Holt) 11 th Grade: Pre-Calculus (TBD, pilot in the spring of 2011 through the spring of 2012 and implementation in the fall of 2012) 12 th Grade: AP/IB Calculus, AP Statistics, Intro to Calculus

Implementation of new course sequence

2010-11: Algebra 1 (8 th grade) grade) and Geometry (9 th We will supplement the Geometry course next year with a unit of Algebra 1 materials.

2011-12: Algebra 2 2012-13: Pre-Calculus

Math Adoption Committee

Purpose and objective: The committee will select either the Holt or Discovering textbook series for Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. The decision will be made by consensus based upon the objective evidence gathered during the adoption process. Target date for the decision: March 2010

Math Adoption Committee

Duties of Team Members •Attend 7-10 scheduled meetings •Serve as a communication link to constituents •Evaluate data regarding the piloted materials •Explore current research on learning mathematics •Parent team members will help facilitate informational meetings for parents and community members

• • • We are adopting instructional materials that will be the base for our curriculum (the textbook is not our curriculum).

All decisions are made based on sound research, what is in the best interests of our students and align with our district mission and core values.
