Attendance Audit Findings: Early Release
 The Spring attendance audit will result in a finding that the
early release policy is not being properly implemented at the
sites that were visited. Nearly all of the sites visited were not
using the early release codes consistently.
 About 40% of the sites visited this Fall have not been using
the early release codes properly.
 PLEASE review the attendance guidelines on the website:
http://www.healthiersf.org/ExCELafterschool/Resources/nattendance.php
 Please note the Early Release policy MUST be posted. It
has been translated into various languages.
Academic Partnership Model
PURPOSE OF ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIP FRAMEWORK:
For all ExCEL After School Program sites to develop solid academic program
components that support student skill building, contribute to academic achievement,
and are based upon strong partnership between the CBO Lead Agency and the School
Day Staff.
KEY ELEMENTS:

Shared priorities for student success in ExCEL After School programs

Strategic Utilization of Academic Liaison Role –a designated certificated teacher or
non-credentialed staff person identified by the school site principal to serve in an
academic leadership position

Intentional Communication and information sharing between school day and after
school staff

Leveraged funding including grant funds, school site funds, DCYF SF Team grant, and
Equitable Access funds to provide additional direct services and professional
development (when available)
Key Academic Liaison Activities:

Meet regularly with the Site Coordinator to coordinate and support implementation of
academic-based activities.

Act as the designated communication liaison between school day and after school
staff, representing the interests and initiatives of the after school program to school
day teachers and vice versa.

Using student level data to inform planning and implementation of the after school
academic component(s). At the high school level, the Academic Liaison will
coordinate ExCEL’s credit recovery efforts.

Training and coaching for after school staff members to strengthen their role in
supporting academic achievement. The Academic Liaison will strategically train and
coach after school program staff to support provision of quality instructional practices.

Based upon site priorities, the Academic Liaison may also choose to provide one to
one, small group, or large group tutoring sessions with students in the after school
program.
How are you inviting and integrating
your site’s Academic Liaison into your program?
Checking in on the ExCEL
Academic Partnership Model
1) Has an Academic Liaison has been designated for your site?
2) Have you met with your Academic Liaison to discuss the
ExCEL program?
3) Have you shared a copy of your QAP with your Academic
Liaison?
4) Is your Academic Liaison actively working to support your
ExCEL program each week?
5) Which of your Academic Liaison’s activities have been most
beneficial in supporting your program?
6) What are some challenges that your site is currently facing in
regard to academics?
Academic Liaison/Site
Coordinator Joint Meetings
 SAVE THE DATE:
ExCEL will organize joint meetings for all Site
Coordinators and Academic Liaisons in February
(February 25) and late Spring 2014 to provide time for
shared reflection and planning.
