The community vision statement reflects both the values identified as essential to the area’s character as well as a blueprint for future development. It was created by over 300 community residents on May 4th, 2009: Butte communities are close-knit, safe, self-sufficient and embracing of diversity. Our family-friendly activities and events provide cultural opportunities and a place fore people to connect. We look at problems progressively and value collaboration and have a culture of innovation and environmental responsibility. We have retained our small town feel and are open and accepting of new people and ideas. Our seniors and the retirement community are treasured as a strong resource. Our towns are attractive, friendly and welcoming to visitors, who come here to enjoy our special events, unique destination tourism and natural scenery. We have created ourselves as a center for renewable energy and have built upon our history as being the first town to be lit by atomic power in the world. Our diverse economy is built on our historical agriculture, and has a strong entrepreneurial culture where our businesses can thrive and grow and young people can make a future for themselves. Community Vision designed at Vision 20/20 May 4th , 2009 We identifies some key new strategic action areas……. Networking and Building the Local Economy This team will focus on utilizing, developing, and enhancing innovation and collaboration in business and employment opportunities in tourism, agriculture, renewable energy, special events and attractions, leading to greater economic opportunity in our community. Life- Long Learning This team will continue our strong support of our schools and provide new opportunities for mentoring, vocational and career education and development, leadership development, and learning opportunities for all ages. Building Community This team will build on our strong institutions and cohesive schools to create greater opportunities for community members to connect and communicate, support less fortunate members of the community, and build the welcoming, diverse culture we desire. This team will focus on building human connections. Community Pride and Beautification This team will develop our vision for an attractive community with adequate physical infrastructure to support the development of strong community relationships and display a welcoming environment where visitors and newcomers are interested in visiting and settling. Action Teams - Mode of operation • Conduct your meetings and work in a professional and team approach – there will be co-chairs for each team. • Look for cross team opportunities (operate collaboratively) • Aim to produce both short and long-term results – be outcome orientated • Explore the action area and draw on outside expertise to bring new thinking to the community – especially for the ‘big-picture’ new action areas • Bring in new people and ideas from across the community • Be bold; be visionary; take a risk! Suggested work plan – by July 31, 2009 • Identify what is the issue / need we are tackling? • Who else do we need to get on the team? • Who else or what existing projects can we partner with? • What extra information /ideas /skills do we need to have? – what barriers might we meet? • What short term goals do we want to accomplish by April 30, 2010? – what 2-3 year goals do we want to set? • What impact do we want to have, and how will we measure the impact? Jobs for this evening • Go and meet in Action Teams • Meet Each Other; Make a List of Team Members • Review work plan until July 31, 2009 • Begin to identify extra skills needed on team: who to invite; who will invite them, and by when (include a ‘wildcard’) • Set meeting schedule – (include strategic brainstorming session if necessary); create contact lists, potential projects, etc • Be ready for co-chairs to report back in 60 minutes.
