Hangar Door Safety
Hanger Door
Operation Training
Prior to door operations, contact
Fire Department to verify that
Arming system is off
Only personnel listed on the
Hangar Door Authorization
letter will operate hanger
doors during normal conditions

Ensure hangar door guide rails
are clear of foreign objects
Upon opening doors, warning
device will sound at least 5
seconds prior to door section
movement.
Hangar doors will be opened a
minimum of 10 feet before
personnel or equipment may
pass between
Aircraft towed in or out of
hangar shall have a minimum
of 10 feet clearance between
wing tip and doors
In the event of power failure,
doors may be manually opened by
ensuring main power switch is in
the off position, disengaging the
clutch and manually push door open
by hand only!

18.35.5.1. Operator Training. IAW AFOSH STD 91100, “Only qualified personnel approved by the
squadron commander or designated representative
will be authorized to operate hangar doors. Operators
will be thoroughly familiar with operating instructions
and precautions necessary for safe operation.” All
personnel that operate hangar doors (not personnel
doors) in the performance of routine duties
(maintenance, supply, equipment deliveries, etc.) must
meet minimum training requirements. Qualified
operators should be kept to a minimum and a list of
qualified operators should be posted on each set of
doors.

18.35.5.1.1. The MXG/CC will ensure that a hands-on OJT
training program is developed for all personnel who operate
electric and manual hangar doors. As a minimum, training will
include door operations, hazard awareness/abatement, and
emergency procedures.
18.35.5.2. Annual Awareness Training. All personnel who
routinely work in hangar facilities, regardless of AFSC or duties,
must receive awareness training annually. As a minimum, training
will include hazards and emergency procedures. (Covered by
Maintenance Orientation)
18.35.5.3. Documentation. All hangar door training will be
tracked in CAMS for maintenance personnel with a local
course code for each type of training. For civilian personnel
the training should be tracked on the AF IMT 55 and for other
non-maintenance personnel training should be documented on the
AF IMT 797.
