Public – Private Partnership to advance low carbon and sustainable tourism: UNIDO was set up in 1966 and became a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1985. As part of the United Nations common system, UNIDO has responsibility for promoting Sustainable Industrial Development throughout the developing world, in cooperation with its 171 Member States. The headquarters are in Vienna, and it is represented in 35 developing countries. Joint UNIDO-UNEP Programme on Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) improves resource productivity and environmental performance of businesses and other organizations and thereby contributes to sustainable industrial development and sustainable consumption and production. is the continuous application of an integrated preventive environmental strategy to processes, products and services to increase efficiency and reduce risks to humans and environment. It specifically works to advance: •Production efficiency •Environmental conservation •Human development Global Network Five common service areas The UNIDO–UNEP RECP Programme builds upon the capacities of 42 National Cleaner Production Centers (NCPCs) and Programmes (NCPPs) established worldwide Awareness building and information dissemination Professional training In plant assessments/technical assistance Policy advice Transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies RECP & Tourism Industry UNIDO has experience in the practical applications of RECP in the tourism sector and its supply chain, particularly in the introduction of techniques and technologies related to CP, energy efficiency and renewable energy as well as the incorporation of Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) elements.
