Individual Data Meetings

Purpose : Use a problem-solving process to identify issues that may be inhibiting a student’s progress.

Goal: Develop interventions that address a student’s particular difficulties in order to increase chances of academic success.

IDM: Logistics

 At the GDM, members agree on a date  Homeroom teacher invites the parent  EIS begins to compile pertinent data     Cum. File Background/Family History Health Classroom Info.

IDM: Infrastructure Elements

 Team includes EIS, School Psychologist, Parent, Teacher, Special Education, others as appropriate  Documentation includes cum. file review & meeting Documentation forms  Data includes benchmark, progress monitoring, classroom information & other relevant sources

IDM: Collaborative Problem Solving Process

Define the Problem Evaluation Problem Analysis Intervention Planning

IDM: Process

   Process led by school psychologist Team specifically defines the problem  Strengths, Challenges, Interventions to Date, What Has Helped Team examines all possible explanations for the existence of the problem.     Bio-physical influences Environmental influences Social/Behavioral influences Individual Trait influences

IDM: Process (cont’d.)

    Team generates hypothesis to explain the existence of the problem.

Team identifies interventions that address hypothesis  Who, when, & how Team identifies follow up meeting date  Intervention data is evaluated at follow up Team uses data to make decisions  Continue intervention at Tier 2   Return student to Tier 1 Move student to a Tier 3 intervention/Referral to Special Education

Special Education Consideration

 Special education referral must be supported by the IDM hypothesis.  i.e., suspected processing deficits, significant medical conditions or emotional conditions

Remember…

 The goal of this process, GDM IDM, is to increase the likelihood of student success through data-driven decision-making & problem-solving.

 This process

may occasionally

result in a special education referral.  It is expected that a large majority of students will be supported through continued general education intervention and progress monitoring.
