Spending Money
• Spending money is required for lunch, drinks, snacks, souvenirs etc.

(students are only insured for the equivalent of £250 cash, or £150
cash if under 16)
• Additional spending money via credit/debit/travel card
• We shall hire a safe at the hotels for students who would prefer not
to keep all their cash on their person. A daily amount can then be
withdrawn each morning from their group leader
• Students will be responsible for carrying their own spending money
from home to the Harrington Hotel and between Harrington Hotel
and Herald Square Hotel and on the journey home (if they have
any left!)
• A preferential exchange rate will be available from Co-op Travel
in Ashby de la Zouch for all students on the trip – please use preorder form in pack
(Hand over to Co-op Travel for presentation)

If you want to take your laptop on-board, you'll need to place it in your
original hand baggage or check your hand baggage in.
Please note passengers must be able to place their hand baggage in
the overhead bins unaided.
Flights from UK:
Currently, security checkpoints in UK airports only allow you to carry limited
quantities of liquids in your hand baggage. This includes gels, lotions, pastes,
liquid cosmetics, foams and foodstuffs.
We recommend you pack permitted liquid items in your hold baggage to
avoid security delays. Any liquids you do decide to carry in your hand
baggage must meet the following requirements to pass security screening:
Liquids must be in individual containers, no greater than 100ml capacity
All liquid containers must be placed in a transparent, re-sealable bag (i.e.
with a zip or pressable seal). The bag must be no bigger than
20cm x 20cm (8ins x 8ins), and a maximum of one litre in capacity
Only one transparent re-sealable bag is allowed. Bags not fulfilling the
requirements above are not allowed
Restrictions on liquids bought in Duty Free:
To ensure you don't waste money on buying duty free liquids you can't take
on-board your flight, please check our Duty Free liquids restrictions
information for your departure destination at www.virgin-atlantic.com
Safety and Security:
Do not make off-the-cuff or flippant remarks about bombs or terrorism,
especially when passing through the airports.
You should use common sense and take basic precautions at all times. Bear in
mind the following:
•Do not flaunt your money
•Walk facing the traffic so no one can drive up alongside you
•If the worst happens and you find yourself threatened, hand over your wallet
or camera at once then dial 911 (its free)
•Be extra alert to pick-pocketers and street hustlers especially in Times Square
– don’t be seduced by cardsharps or other tricksters
AT ALL TIMES YOU SHOULD BE IN GROUPS OF NO LESS THAN 4 PEOPLE – SPLITTING
UP WITH FRIENDS IS NOT AN OPTION AND IS AN IMPORTANT RULE OF THIS TRIP –
GROUP SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT
Student Behaviour:
Please remember that at all times you will be an ambassador for the school
and your country on this trip, the highest standards of behaviour, co-operation
and consideration for others will be expected.
Alcohol – the age limit to legally buy and consume alcohol is 21 years.
Smoking – it is illegal to smoke in all public places including restaurants and
subways even if no smoking signs are not displayed. Fines start at $100 so now
could be a good time to quit!
