What is
“Born Again?”
Can Someone Be Born a Second Time?
(Bible verses from New King James Version)
An expression says:
“Today is the first day
of the rest of your life!”
In other words:
Today, you could start your
life all over again.
In the Gospel of John Chapter 3:1 we read
“There was a man of the Pharisees
named Nicodemus, a ruler of the
Jews, who came to Jesus by night.”
- John 3:1
The “Pharisees” were a powerful Jewish
religious group that ruled Jewish society.
Peer Pressure = a problem!
Nicodemus was hungry for truth,
but maybe too embarrassed to
be seen by day by his colleagues,
the other priests, his peers! So…
“This man came to
Jesus by night.”
[PEERS are friends, colleagues, family
members. And PEER PRESSURE is
social pressure on us by our peers.]
But if we obey our peers only we may
never find the truth! Imagine that
Nicodemus would have never come to
Jesus! He wouldn’t be in Heaven now!
Are you under peer pressure sometimes?
Nicodemus said to Him… John 3:2
2. “…Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher
come from God; for no one can do these signs
(miracles) that you do unless God is with him.”
John 3:2.
Jesus proved He came from God by showing many signs &
miracles, like making the blind see, the lame walk, etc.
[Rabbi = Teacher or Master in the Hebrew language]
3. Jesus answered and said to him, John 3:3
“Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God.”
“born again” means born a second time, all over again, not
into this World again, but into God’s spiritual Kingdom!
Heaven is the spiritual opposite of
this physical world or universe.
“The Kingdom of God” is God’s
people! In Heaven & on Earth! And
unless we are re-born, we can’t even
see or understand God’s Nation of
Children of God, on Earth as they
are in Heaven.
“You’ve got to be a baby to go to Heaven!”
Jesus said in Matthew 18:3
“unless you are converted and become as
little children, you will by no means enter
the kingdom of heaven.”
The “Kingdom of God”- God´s Spiritual World.
Heaven is the Spiritual Universe or
Heavenly Regions where God is all
powerful! Heaven, the real World!
Jesus says Heaven is real!—A
reality! Not a superstition!
[Converted = Changed!
Superstition = Untrue, unfounded belief or belief system based on legends, lies or
false teachings.]
But Nicodemus was puzzled/confused.
4. “Nicodemus said to Him,
‘How can a man be born
when he is old? Can he enter a
second time into his mother's
womb and be born?’"
Nicodemus did not understand.
He took it literal or fleshly!
“In the flesh” like a physical birth.
[“In the flesh” is the opposite of
“in the spirit” or “spiritually”
“Literal” is opposite of “figuratively”]

5 “Jesus answered,
‘Most assuredly, I
say to you, unless
[some]one is born of
water and the Spirit,
he cannot enter the
kingdom of God.”
Our first birth is a physical
birth. Born of water. Born
from human seed & from a
water bag. Our bodies also,
are 70 % water.
2nd Birth: Born Of the Spirit!
Our second birth is a spiritual birth. Born of the
Spirit! Gods Spirit!—Jesus! Gods spiritual Seed,
brings forth a new spiritual creation. A new son or
daughter or Child of God! [see 1Peter 1:23]
“Having been born again, not of corruptible
seed but incorruptible [seed], through the word
of God which lives and abides forever”
Born again from Eternal Seed! 1Peter 1:23
Our “new man”, the new spiritual
child of God, is born from Jesus,
who IS the eternal Seed of God,
who IS “the Word of God.”
See John 1:14:
“And the Word became flesh and
dwelt (lived) among us, and we
beheld (saw) His glory”
Jesus was the living Word of God, a
living Bible.
[”Abides” = Stays, Continues]
Flesh from flesh, spirit from Spirit!
6. “That which is born of the flesh is
flesh; and that which is born of the
Spirit is spirit.”
Our human body is born from another human body.
Body from body. Flesh from flesh!
But our spirit has to be born from God’s Spirit,
from Jesus, God´s Son. Spirit from Spirit!
Our bodies look like our parents, but our born again
spirit will become more and more like God’s
Spirit.
Don’t be surprised! Jesus said:
7. “Do not marvel that I said to you,
‘You must be born again.’”
8. “The wind blows where it wishes, and
you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell
where it comes from and where it goes.
So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Just as the invisible wind comes and goes, so is
the new child of God. God´s Spirit makes
them come and go. Sometimes active & seen
and at other times quiet and still. But FREE!
invisible = unseen
Are you born again?
You can be!
Just receive Jesus
in your heart
In Revelation 3:20 Jesus says:
“Look! I stand at the
door (of you heart) and
knock. If anyone hears
my voice and opens the
door, I will come into
him, and dine with him
and he with Me.”
Just Receive Jesus Now
by saying this simple prayer from your heart:
”Dear Jesus. Please come into my heart.
Forgive me for my sins
and give me Eternal Life.
Help me to love You and love other people
and to understand the Bible.
In Jesus Name I pray. Amen!
Thank You Jesus!”
So where is Jesus now?
Right in your heart, and He will never leave you.
And now you have Eternal Life.
“Born again“ means born a 2nd
time! And it‘s forever! Eternal!
Once you’re born again, you
are born again forever!
You cannot be “UN-born”!
Impossible!
Just as your Father in Heaven,
you also have everlasting
Eternal Life, and you can
never perish anymore!
[to perish (verb) = to go down, to drown,
to die, to get lost.]
If you could lose eternal life,
would it be eternal??
Your second birth means,
that you are Gods child now! John 1:12-13
“But as many as received Him [Jesus], to them
He gave the right (power) to become children of
God, to those who believe on his name”
“Who were BORN, not of blood, nor of the will of
the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of GOD!”
If we invited Jesus into our hearts, we have received the
right/the power/the authority, to become His children,
the children or sons & daughters of God.
“Born of God” means that we are His spiritual baby now.
And just as we love our children, so does He love us &
will also take good care of us!
You are a new creature now!
Once we are born again, the Bible calls us “a new
creation or creature!”
2 Corinthians 5:17 ”Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he
is a new creation; old things have passed away;
behold, all things have become new.”
Matthew 18:3 — unless you are converted and become
as little children, you will by no means enter the
kingdom of heaven.
Galatians 6:15 ”For in Christ Jesus neither
circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything,
but a new creation.”
New-born babies like milk! 1Peter 2:2
“As newborn babes, [do] desire the
pure milk of the word, that you may
grow thereby” 1 Peter 2:2
What do natural new born babies
do? Not much! They lie in bed,
sleep, eliminate, play, cry &
they just love to drink milk!
When WE are ”born again” we
should also desire God´s Milk,
the ”pure milk of His Word ”
in the Bible.
Milk of the WORD! Not junkfood!
Spiritual babies should
“desire the pure milk of
the WORD” more than
other things…
Spiritual junkfood, like
worldly newspapers &
shallow books or gossip
magazines.
That is... IF you like to
grow spiritually! And
spiritually healthy!
Our re-birth is a re-generation that also
saves us from spiritual death & damnation!
See Titus 3:5
5.“Not by works of righteousness which we
have done (our own good behaviour), but
according to His mercy He saved us,
through the washing of REGENERATION
and renewing of the Holy Spirit”
We weren’t born physically into this world because we
did something good before. And so, neither do we
get born into the Spiritual World of God’s Heavenly
Kingdom because we deserve it.
Our Second Birth—the washing of regeneration—is
just a merciful gift of God by grace!
When you’re born again, you are
“saved by grace!” See Ephesians 2:8-9
8.“For by grace, you have been saved
through faith, and that NOT of
yourselves; it is the gift of God,”
Note the perfect tense! “have been saved“
It is finished! It is done! In the past!
9. ”Not of works (our own good behaviour),
lest anyone should boast.”
Our salvation is ONLY by grace! NEVER by
works! It’s like a birthday present! FREE!
The Knob is
on the Inside!
Holman Hunt (English painter
1827-1910) painted the picture
"Christ the Light of the World." It is
a painting of Christ in a garden at
midnight, holding a lantern in His
left hand. With His right hand He is
knocking on a heavily paneled door.
When the painting was unveiled,
several critics were present. One
critic detected what he thought was
lacking, namely, a knob on the door.
He said, "You haven't finished your
work.”
"It is finished," said the artist.
"But there is no knob on the door,"
protested the critic.
"Ah," said the artist, "that is the
door to the human heart. It can be
opened only from the inside!"
Getting to know Jesus!
Here’s a story about a girl who was assigned some book to read in college. She
started but because she found it kind of dry and uninteresting, she threw it in the
top of her closet and thought she'd read it later. Later on a man came to the
college and lectured. She found out during the course of his lecture that he was
the author of the book! She fell in love with him on his visit to the college and
after hearing his lectures she went home and dug the book out of the top of her
closet and buried herself in the book to read it!
Why? How come the book was all of a sudden so interesting, whereas she thought
it was dry and uninteresting before?—She knew the author!
What's the most important reason why we know the Bible is true? We know the
Author! We know the Bible is true because we know the Author and we know He
wouldn't have written us any lies; we know what He says is right!
Before somebody introduced you to the Author, you probably didn't care much
about the Bible and didn't know whether it was true or not, never read it and
maybe didn't even believe it. But now since we've told you that it's Jesus and
you've been introduced to Jesus and have received Jesus in your heart, all of a
sudden you're interested in the Bible for the first time maybe in your life, because
now you know the Author and you want to hear what He has to say!
Only two religions
Save yourself or be saved by another?
While presenting the Gospel on the streets of a California city,
we were often interrupted as follows:
"Look here, sir! There are hundreds of religions in this
country, and the followers of each sect think theirs is the only right
one. How can poor plain men like us find out what really is the
truth?"
We generally replied something like this:
"Hundreds of religions, you say? That's strange; I've heard
of only two."
"Oh, but you surely know there are more than that?"
"Not at all, sir. I find, I admit, many shades of difference in
the opinions of those comprising the two great schools; but after
all there are but two. The one covers all who expect salvation by
doing; the other, all who have been saved by something done. So
you see the whole question is very simple. Can you save yourself,
or must you be saved by another? If you can be your own savior,
you do not need my message. If you cannot, you would do well to
listen to it."
Go by the Book!
Two men, the one a foreman, the other, one of the carpenters
under him, were standing on the deck of a steamship, then on
the stocks, in one of the shipbuilding yards on the Clyde River
in Scotland. "Well, Stephen," said the foreman, "I have been
anxious to have a conversation with you. I'm told you are one
of those people who say they know for certain that they are
saved. Is that true?”
"Yes," said Stephen, "quite true; thank God, I know I'm saved.
In fact, there is nothing I'm more sure of, than that I'm saved.
"Well, now," said the foreman, "that is something I cannot see
through. How any man can say that he is saved as long as he
is in this world. I think it is rather presumptuous for anyone to
say so...”
"Well," said Stephen, "there is a reality in being saved, in
being a child of God & in knowing it. What is the diameter of
this pipe?"
Go by the Book!
The foreman, astonished at the apparent sudden change in
the conversation, said, "Why, 35 centimeters all around, to
be sure. What makes you ask that, when you know?”
“But are you quite sure that it is 35 centimeters?”
"Certainly.” "But what makes you so sure?”
"Why, I'm going by the book," and, as he said so, he pulled
a book out of his pocket, in which were marked the sizes
and position of the various things on the deck.
"I'm sure it is 35 centimeters, for it is here in the book, and I
got the book from headquarters.”
"Oh! I see," said Stephen. "Now look here. That is exactly
how I know I'm saved. I'm just going by the Book. It came
from headquarters.—It is God's Word."
