GEOGRAPHY
 Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula of Europe.
Portugal is its neighbor to the west; France its
neighbor to the northeast. The Mediterranean Sea
borders its southern coast and the Atlantic Ocean to
its north.
GOVERNMENT
 Spain form of government is that of a constitutional
monarchy.
 The current king of Spain is Felipe VI, whose reign
began on June 19, 2014.
 It has a Parliament like Great Britain, whose members
are elected.

 Spain’s GDP per capita is $30,100 as of 2013, placing it
47th in the world in this category
 Life expectancy is 81.5 years (18th highest in the world)
 Infant mortality is 3.33 per 1000 live births (13th lowest
in the world)

The Running of the Bulls
 The Festival of San Fermin, or the Running of the Bulls
as it is known outside of Spain, occurs at midday on
July 6 in Pamplona
 Originally the Festival of San Fermin was a religious
event, but over the centuries it became what is now a
big party
 Gained much notoriety from Ernest Hemingway’s The
Sun Also Rises, a novel about American and British
expatriates in Spain
The Running of the Bulls
 The bull runs take place every morning July 7 – 14
 The length of the run is about 900 yards, or a little over
½ mile
 The average time to complete the run is about three
minutes
 Runners dress in white with a red handkerchief around
their neck

Dances
 Bolero: One of the oldest and most traditional dances of the history of
Spanish dance, the bolero is a quick Spanish dance boasting sudden
pauses and sharp turns.
 Fandango: At one point the most famous dance of Spain, the fandango is
a lively, happy Spanish danced in twos.
