Standards (NBIS)

NBIS Qualifications
• Public Road Definition - 23 USC 101 (a) (27) “…..The term
‘public road’ means any road or street under the jurisdiction
of and maintained by a public authority and open to public
travel.”
• Length – A structure is considered a bridge when its length,
measured along the center of the roadway, is more than 20’
from abutment to abutment, or extreme ends of openings for
multiple boxes and pipes where the clear distance between
the openings is less than half of the smaller opening.
