Training: Procedure
• NSF supported, Collaborated with Dalin TzuChi Hospital
• Public announcement and recruitment
• About 100 applicants, 50 selected, 23
completed
• Two phases: 120 hours of classes on weekends,
160 hours of practices in hospitals
• 8-month training
To facilitate healthcare
communication between the
medical staff and patients, a
scientific communication
project funded by Taiwanese
government was initiated in
2008 to train the healthcare
professionals to develop elearning materials for patients.
The curriculum, arranged as
workshops on weekends, included
media design, e-learning design
models, and medical e-learning
application in hospitals.
Being periodically presented
and examined by doctors and
media experts during the
implementation process, these
e-learning systems eventually
completed with good quality. At
the final stage, these systems were
played on a big screen in a
hospital. Patients who waited for
examination were invited to watch
the systems and provide
feedbacks. In the end, 28 trainees
completed the training.

End of Program
More than 90 applicants all
over the nation applied for
this 8-month training
program. The program
consisted of 5-month
curriculum and 3-month
hand-on project. Only 34

program.
After the curriculum, trainees
selected a practice hospital
and developed the e-learning
materials under the
supervision of the hospital elearning department staff.
Four to five persons formed
a group and chose a health
education theme for elearning implementation.
They cooperated with
experts to develop medical
contents with appropriate
knowledge and pedagogy.
These trainees made poster
presentations in groups at a
medical e-learning conference.
And then they returned to their
working organizations and
consistently promoted medical
