Mucho & ¿Cuánto? are adjectives:
Quantitative Adjectives: special “non-specific”
adjectives that are used to describe the
quantity of things we don’t or can’t count in
terms of a specific number

¿Cuánto? = how much / how many
Gramática:

Regla: like all adjs. (used to describe a
noun) – these two adjs. agree in number &
gender with the noun (go before the noun)

(*will only be used in question form to modify a noun)
Ej: (papel) ¿Cuánto papel tienes?
Tengo mucho.
Ej: (lápices) ¿Cuántos lápices necesitas?
Necesito muchos.
Ej: (ropa) ¿Cuánta ropa quieres? Quiero mucha.
Ej: (carpetas) ¿Cuántas carpetas hay en tu

Exceptions:
III. *Mucho when used as an adverb (to describe
a verb) it doesn’t change forms – remains
masculine singular and goes after verb
Ej: *used to ask & describe cost
¿Cuánto cuesta? Cuesta mucho.
Ej: *used to state a lot with a verb (goes after
verb to modify a lot)
Me gusta mucho jugar deportes.
Me gusta mucho la pizza.
Tengo mucho que hacer esta noche.
