Teacher Impact (continued)
• OBJECTIVE 2: All educators will be highly
knowledgeable and skilled, capable of effectively
using technology tools and digital content.
• Target for 2005:
– 100% of teachers/media specialists/teacher candidates
will meet MTTS technology knowledge and skills
• Target for 2004
• Develop recommendations for demonstration of proficiency in
State administrator technology standards for administrative
certification.

Local School Systems
• LSS Technology Plan must be developed
– Indicate how working towards the state tech plan
• Current focus is on what can be measured

Teachers & LSS
• Teachers are voluntarily acquiring the knowledge
to meet the standards
• LSS provide PD activities
– Many lean towards online PD tutorials and/or courses

12
Pre-service
• Require all teacher candidates and new hires to
demonstrate proficiency in MTTS
– Perform at a proficient level on the new performance
assessments developed through the “Preparing
Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology” Catalyst
Grant (or on performance assessments of equivalent
rigor)
• Demonstrated through classes and portfolios (hard
and electronic)

13
College of Education
• Programs will meet the technology related
requirements set by the state
– By 2003, teacher education programs aligned with
MTTS in order to be approved
– NCATE accreditation also applies
• Based on ISTE/NETS*T standards
• MTTS standards are more rigorous and therefore
if the college/pre-service program addresses state
standards, will also address NCATE

College Initiatives
• Inventory of the syllabi/course work and which
standards are addressed
• Database being compiled
• Faculty have online access to standards and
matrices
• Evaluation of student work (courses and electronic
portfolios) and how they address the standards
• Remember: the final assessment is on student
learning
