Robbery Prevention
Robbery is defined by Colorado
Revised Statutes as a person who
knowingly takes anything of value
from the person or the presence of
another by use of force, threats, or
intimidation.
Robbery Prevention
In 2003, a total of 3,577 robberies
were reported by law enforcement
agencies in Colorado.
This is a 3.8% increase from 2002.
Robberies accounted for 6.5% of the
major offenses reported in Colorado.

Opening Procedures
Check your place of business first by
driving by and looking for anyone or
anything that is suspicious.
Pay attention to the parking lots,
streets, alleyways and dark spots
around your place of business.

If possible, have more than one
employee open.
Have your keys ready before you
approach the door.
Get in as quick as possible.

Establish a safety signal to notify other
employees that it is safe to enter the
business.
If something seems out of place, call
911 and contact the Arapahoe County
Sheriff’s Office immediately.

If possible, never close your place of
business alone.
Pay attention to late arriving
customers.
Never let a customer in after you
have closed.

Make certain that the place of business is
empty and secure the doors before you turn
your attention to closing procedures.
Remain alert for anyone or anything that is
suspicious.
If you see suspicious activity, report it to the
Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office

applicable.

doors open.

usually are excited and may be
provoked easily.

chances.

Use dye packs, tracking devices, bait
money, etc. when giving money but
don’t make it obvious.

yourself or people you know.
