Anyone in an organization should use these methods so
things like meetings aren’t used unwisely with things like
arguing. If you use these methods, you will have “…a
brisk and disciplined approach.”
“At first people might feel a little
awkward about using the different
hats…”
THE AWKWARDNESS PASSES!!!!! Soon,
the convenience of the system becomes
apparent. The first time you use the hats, it
will most likely be in the form of a request
to use one of the hats or to use a different
one besides the black hat because people
tend to get stuck using the black hat.

• Figures and information!
RED HAT!
• Seeing red!
• Emotions and feelings!
• Also hunch and intuition!
BLACK HAT!
• Devil’s advocate!
• Negative judgment!
• Why it will not work!
YELLOW HAT!
• Sunshine!
• Brightness and
optimism!
• Positive!
• Constructive!
• Opportunity!
GREEN HAT!
• Fertile!
• Creative!
• Plants springing from
seeds!
• Movement!
• Provocation!
BLUE HAT!
• Cool and control!
• Orchestra conductor!
• Thinking about thinking!

yellow hat remark. Try it out for
