The population - 37,309,000. Most of the people live in the cities.

Natural resources
The CFD accounts for 40.5% of Russia's prospected iron ores (Kursk Magnetic Anomaly).
Non-ferrous mineral resources: peat, tripoli, gypsum, limestone, chalk; glass, mold, building and ballast sand, brick earth, claydite, refractory clay, mineral paints and others. Phosphorite deposits. The large Ulyanovsk deposit of quality refractory clays (16% of Russia's explored resources). The country's biggest deposits of raw carbonate. Precious and non-ferrous metals, rare-earth elements, glauconites, zeolites and medicinal; Table mineral water have also been discovered in the CFD.
