London Borough of Brent Youth Homelessness Service Laurence Coaker Jenina Abbeyquaye Housing Solutions Team 25 March 2011 • Guidance on joint working protocols - May 2008. • Response to the Southwark judgement 2009 • Changes in guidance around the use of bed and breakfast for 16 and 17 year olds – April 2010 • CLG and DfCS&F issued statutory guidance on the Southwark ruling - April 2010 The Children and Families Department and Housing Department agreed to pilot a colocated multi agency team to assess the needs of 16 and 17 year olds, with homelessness prevention being a focal point of activity The primary objective is to keep 16 and 17 year olds living at home with their families, to improve their chances of employment, education, health and well being. In cases where families can not be held together we are encouraging improved communication between young people and their families which will limit ongoing risk of homelessness and isolation. The Young People’s Team • The Young People’s Team is located in a neutral location • 1 Social Work Assistant • 1 Intensive Connexions Personal Advisor • 1 Housing Advisor.
