The Conflict

• On Wednesday, Holden the main character is supposed leave Pencey School in Pennsylvania in Christmas 1949 for good because of his low grades.

• Stradlatter, is getting on Holden’s nerves, because he is dating Jane who used to be his neighbor.

• When he get back after the date, Holden asks how it was and Stadlatter does not answer him.

• Holden began to get angry at him, and he tried to sock him in the face; Stadlatter hits back and a brawl begins.

• After the fight Holden decides to leave Pencey now and take a train to New York City.

Rising Action

• After the fight Holden decides to leave Pencey now and take a train to New York City.

• When he gets to New York, he get a hotel near Central Park. • Later that night, he goes to a night club and meets some ugly and corny girls in their 30’s.

• Throughout that nigh, he goes to different night clubs and gets a date with Sally

Rising Action Part 2

• Also that evening, he meets a prostitute decides not to do anything, pays her but she wants more money. That morning her PIMP comes in and beats him up and he thinks about killing him and himself.

• The next day, he buys Phoebe his sister a record and tries to find hers at the museum.

• During the date with Sally, they see a play and after that they try to go ice skating.

Rising Action Part 3

• After that at a café he suggests that they take a trip to New England, and she gets angry and says no. Then they get into an argument and they part ways soon and they hate each other.

• That evening he goes to bars and gets drunk, then he goes to Central Park and decides to go home to see Phoebe.

• When he see Phoebe she asks him many question, like why did he get kicked out, what do you want to be, etc.

• He responds by saying I don’t know, but he wants to be a “Cathcer in the Rye” • Later he goes to Mr. Antolini’s and he gets advice but get freaked out when he pets him.
