“A measurable and sustained improvement in school PE

Active Dorset
Primary School Support Role
Active Dorset has been asked to facilitate the primary school sport premium
mapping exercise in Dorset, in partnership with Sport England, YST, afPE
and other national partners.
Together we will create a simple picture at County Sport Partnership level
of how primary schools are deploying their share of the premium.
This intelligence will enable Active Dorset to target support and help those who
want and need it.
An offer of support has been in place since September 2013.

Staff Training
Level 5&6 - Primary
PE Specialist Course
• Shortage of Gymnastics and Dance
coaches in schools
• The majority of schools are engaging in
a means to up-skill their own staff in
the delivery of PE
• Some are employing specialist PE staff
to deliver PE by working alongside
primary colleagues
• Active Dorset are currently delivering
this 8 day course - delegates will
qualify in 2015
• The delegates are PE coordinators or
HTLA’s from primary schools in Dorset
and the Isle of Wight
Coach Education
• More coaches and coach companies
are approaching schools and seeking
business
• Active Dorset hope to address this
issue in partnership with local
National Governing Body
Development Officers
• New ‘Coaching in Schools’ CPD
course to be developed by Active
Dorset in 2014-15
Additional Coaches in schools
• 75% more coaches in schools
• UNCLEAR of their use – i.e. for after
school activities, for curriculum time
or for breakfast/lunch time input
• More schools are running extracurricular clubs
National Governing Bodies
• Of the additional coaches going into
schools, it is unclear how many NGB’s
have been approached directly by
schools to contribute to this figure
Competition
School Games
• A good number of schools have increased
their engagement in competition
• Primary Sport Premium funding has been
used to provide transport to Level 2&3
events
Health/Physical Activity
Change4Life
• Many schools have increased their
offer of health enhancing activities
• 10 new schools have started to deliver
Energy Clubs but none have added a
Change 4 Life Club
