available with 16MB,32MB, or 64MB of RAM
holds the operating code for all modules in Flash RAM and
performs the downloading operation
maintains user configuration information
performs basic bridge management functions
performs all routing functions including HRE connection
Checkpoint firewall software
Provides both out-of-band (RS-232) and in-band (SNMP) network
management capabilities, inbound/outbound Telnet

Redundant MPMs
Redundant MPMs





provides added security in the event of an MPM
problem, which ensures NO single point of failure
the secondary MPM mirrors ALL configuration and
software updates of the primary MPM
either MPM may initialize as the primary or secondary
on switchover, the IP address of the switch remains the
same; however the MAC address changes
the address tables must be updated to reflect this
change

therefore, the switch performs a warm reboot and the new
MPM’s addresses are resolved

Module “hot swapping” capability
Power supply hot swapping is supported
Network switching module hot swapping is
supported





module to be swapped must be of “like type”
the swap on command must be initiated from the user
interface before unseating the module.
the new module must be seated before the timer expires
a module removed from slot x! message will be
indicated
use swap off command or allow timeout to occur
