Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support
(PBIS)
Walker’s School Wide Behavioral
Intervention System
~Be Respectful ~Be Responsible ~Be Safe
• Students can earn “Paws” as a classroom for
appropriate behavior.
• Students also earn “Paws” that they can
accumulate and turn in at the school store.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support
My Discipline Plan
• Positive communications for desired behaviors
~compliments and paws
• Much of my classroom management of undesired
behaviors is done through the use of nonverbal
communication.
~proximity to the students
~eye contact with the student
• If a student makes a poor choice, or continues to
disrupt the class I try to pull him/her aside to discuss
the situation.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support
When my classroom management techniques are not enough,
I will rely on my “back up” systems.
My “back up” systems are
YOU and my administrators.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support
This may be started by completing a “Walker Disciplinary Referral.”
Minor Problem Behaviors
•Minor Inappropriate Language
•Physical Contact
•Defiance/Disrespect/Non-Compliance
•Disruption
•Property Misuse
•Technology Violation
•Tardy
Depending on
the situation,
you may just get
the “Referral”
sent home, or it
may be
accompanied by
a phone call so
we can discuss
the situation as
it occurred.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support
Major Problem Behavior
•Inappropriate Language
•Physical Aggression
•Major Defiance/Disrespect
•Lying/Cheating
•Harassment/Bullying
•Fighting
•Disruption
•Excessive Tardies
•Property Damage
•Forgery/Theft
•Inappropriate Location
•Weapon
A “Major” referral will
be handled through an
administrator.
You will be contacted
by an administrator,
myself or both to
discuss the situation.
Often the administrator
will assign an
appropriate
consequence for the
behavior.
Homework Policy
Homework usually involves completing class work not
finished during the school day. If an assignment is not
completed by the following school day, it will be
considered “late.”
Late Work
 A notice of the missing assignment will be sent home
for a parent or guardian’s signature. The signed notice
is due, along with the completed assignment, the next
day.
Homework Policy
 Assignments turned in two days late will receive a
10% grade reduction. After three days, there will be a
50% grade reduction. Assignments more that three
days late will receive a 0%.
Repeated Late Work
 If your child has four late assignments in one quarter,
you will be contacted by phone and arrangements will
be made for your child to stay after school for two days
of academic assistance.
Homework Policy
Repeated Late Work
 After the fifth late assignment, you will be contacted
by phone and your child will be expected to stay after
school for three days of academic assistance.
 After the sixth late assignment, a minor referral will
be sent to administration and a parent/team conference
will be arranged.
English/Language Arts
As we work toward the implementation of the “Common Core State
Standards,” reading and language arts classes are changing. This will
mean there will be more focus on skills that will prepare the students to
be better prepared for college and their jobs in the workplace.
Some of these skills include:
– Summarizing key details in selected reading materials
– Identifying evidence that supports particular ideas in an author’s
argument
– Using information from several sources to answer questions and
solve problems
– Writing opinions with support
– Writing stories
– Participation in group discussions
Math
Some of the skills we will be touching on in math include:
•Adding and subtracting fractions
•Multiplying and dividing fractions
•Understanding of the place-value system including decimals
•Calculating with decimals to the hundredths place (two places after the decimal)
•Multiplying and dividing whole numbers quickly and accurately
•Understanding the concept of volume
•Graphing points in the coordinate plane
As we begin the implementation of “Common Core
Standards” in math, the students will work on solving
word problems and real life situations, involving some of
the for mentioned skills.
Math
 “Math motivators” are given to the students on
Monday and due every Friday. The students will
need to show all work to get credit for these
assignments.
 If your child does not know his/her
multiplication facts, PLEASE help them practice
at home so they don’t fall behind.
Accordion Folders
Student Organization
• Accordion Folders and assignment notebook
and should come home every day.
• Tabs should be used to label each subject.
• Every week, the folder should be cleaned out
and old papers should go home.
Take Home Folders
• The students should have a
folder to be used as their “Take
Home Folder.”
• Notes are generally sent home
on Friday along with graded
papers from the week.
Grading
Students will receive grades based on three categories.
The categories are:
Category 1

(Performances, speech, presentations, projects,

Category 2
