Or a Happy Easter???
YES!
Easter IS a very
happy occasion!
Why? Because
everything that
happened just before
Easter was very sad!
Jesus was condemned…
He was cruelly crucified, and died
But what happened after …
was a super-great victory!
It looked like the End! Jesus’ body was put in a
shroud, placed in a tomb, sealed by a stone.
It seemed like the end of all hope
The Jews put Roman soldiers around the tomb,
to guard the grave, as they said, “to prevent this
man’s disciples from stealing his body!”
And so everyone went home very sad.
Until suddenly,
on the first day of the week at dawn
There was a big earthquake…
An angel came
down from
Heaven & rolled
back the stone &
sat on it
His face was like lightning & his clothing white as
snow. The soldiers became like dead men
Then… an incredible bright
Light flashed from the grave!
Jesus
had
risen
from
the dead!
THE
TOMB
WAS
EMPTY!
Early at
dawn Mary
Magdalene,
an exprostitute &
two other
Mary’s
came to take
care of Jesus’
body!
They found
the stone
was rolled
away!
An Angel sitting on it said to the women:
• “Fear not, for
I know that you
look for Jesus,
which was
crucified.
• “He is not here:
for He is risen,
as He told you.
• “Come, see
the place
where the
Lord lay!”
• Then the two
other Mary’s
quickly left
with joy!
But Mary stayed.
• The angel said:
• “Why do you
look for the living
among the dead?
• “Jesus is not here!
He has risen!
• “Go and tell your
brothers that he
will soon meet
you in Galilee!”
So Mary ran to tell Peter & John
• She told them:
• "They have
taken away the
Lord out of the
tomb,
• "And we don’t
know where
they have laid
Him."
• Peter ran to the
grave!
• But John out
ran him!
Simon
Peter
came &
into the
tomb!
John
arrived
atwent
the tomb
first!
He stooped
down and
looked in.
He saw the
linen shroud
lying there;
yet he did not
go in.
• Simon Peter saw
the linen cloths
lying there.
• Then John went in
also. He saw it and
believed.
• They didn’t yet
know the Scripture,
that Jesus must rise
again from the dead.
• So they went home.
But Mary stayed!
• Crying, she looked into
the tomb.
• She saw two angels in
white sitting, one at the
head, & the other at the
feet, where the body of
Jesus had lain.
• They said, “Woman,
why are you crying?”
• She said to them,
“Because they’ve taken
away my Lord, & I
don’t know where they
have laid him.”
Jesus Appeared.
Mary turned
around & saw
Jesus, but she
didn’t know it
was Jesus!
He said,
“Woman, why
are you crying?
Who are you
looking for?”
She, thinking he
was the gardener,
said to him…
"Sir, if You
have carried
Him away, tell
me where You
have laid Him,
and I will take
Him away."
Jesus said to her
“Mary”
She turned around &
cried,“Master!”
She wanted to embrace Him...
• But Jesus said to
her: “Do not
touch Me!”
• “For I have not
yet gone up to
see My Father.”
• (He wanted His
Father God to
hug Him first!)
“But go to My
Brothers!
“Tell them
‘I’m going
up to My
Father and
your Father,
and to My
God and
your God."
Mary Magdalene came & told the
disciples that she had seen the Lord
…and that He had spoken these things to her.
But to them this seemed like meaningless talk.
Two disciples were walking
to the village of Emmaeus,
When Jesus joined Himself to them.
But they didn’t know who He was!
He answered all their questions about what
had happened, from the Old Testament.
When they arrived, they invited him in for
dinner.
They sat down to eat,
but when Jesus broke the bread…
Then they knew it was Jesus
But He vanished out of their sight!
They said,
“Did not our hearts burn within
us, when He opened the
Scriptures to us, on the way?”
They went back to the other disciples
& told them that they saw the Lord,
who didn’t believe them either!
That same night, the first day of the week…
• The doors were shut where the disciples were
assembled for fear of the Jews.
• Jesus came & stood in the middle, saying to them,
"Peace be with you."

But they were very afraid,
thinking that they’d seen a ghost!
He said, Why are ye troubled and
let thoughts rise in your hearts?
Look at my hands & feet, that it is I
myself:
Touch me & see!
For a spirit has no
flesh & bones,
like you see me
have.
Then He blamed
them for their
unbelief and
hardness of heart
He showed them His hands, feet & side.
Then the disciples were glad
when they saw the Lord.
•Jesus said again, "As the
also send you."
When He had said
this, He breathed
on them, & said to
them, "Receive the
Holy Spirit.
Father has sent Me, I
“If you forgive the
sins of any, they
are forgiven them;
if you retain the
sins of any, they
are retained."
But Thomas wasn’t there, when Jesus came
• The others told him,
“We saw the Lord.”
• But he told them,
“Unless I shall see in
his hands the print of
the nails, & put my
finger into them…
• And thrust my hand
into his side, I will
not believe.”
8 days later• His disciples were
again inside, and
Thomas was with
them.
• Then came Jesus
again, the doors
being shut, and
stood in the midst,
and said, “Peace
be unto you.”
Then said Jesus to Thomas…
“Reach here your finger, and see my hands;
and reach here with your hand, and put it into
my side: And be not faithless, but believing.”
Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God.”
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have
seen me, you have believed: Blessed are they
that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
Jesus led them out to Bethany…
After He met His 11 disciples in Galilee…
on a mountain He
had pointed out to
them.
When they saw
Him, they
worshiped Him,
but some doubted.
Jesus came & said
to them, "All
authority has been
given to Me in
heaven & earth.”
Go therefore and make
disciples of all
nations,
“baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am
with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
Then Jesus
went up into
the sky where
he was
received into
a cloud &
they lost sight
of Him!
And while they
continued to look
up into the sky,
as He went up…
Look, two men
stood by them in
white clothing,
who said, “Hey
you men of
Galilee!”
Why do you stand gazing up into heaven?
“This same Jesus, who was taken up from you
into heaven, will come in the same way as you
saw Him go into heaven."
And they went forth, and preached
everywhere, the Lord working with
them, and confirming the word with
signs following. Amen.
• The “Shroud of Turin” is a grave
cloth with a photograph in it of a
man’s body, 2000 years old by new
C-14 dating methods. Incredible?
• Yes! Because photography was
only invented 150 years ago!
THE SHROUD
• The man was crucified with
OF TURIN! wounds in his hands & feet, and
The Positive Copy bloodstains in all corresponding
Shroud of Turin! places as in the Bible account!
The negative copy
• He had a chest wound under his
ribs from a spear & head wounds &
bloodstains exactly where Jesus
had worn a crown of thorns!
Not only that, but…
• The most amazing
thing of the photo,
however, is the face
of the man.
• In all of history there
has never been seen
such a remarkable
face as this face.
• HIS FACE??
You be the judge!
• If it is not Jesus,
whose is it?
St. John ended his Gospel saying:
Jesus did many other signs in the
presence of his disciples, which
are not written in this book: But
these are written, that you might
believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God; and that
believing you might have life
through his name.”
