Representing nearly 200,000 donors and investing more than $29 million last year, we are making progress: 600 More than 600 Albertans survive cancer each year who would not have survived had they developed cancer 25 years ago. 50: More than 50 new cancer research projects were launched last year in addition to the 100s receiving ongoing funding from the Alberta Cancer Foundation. 25,000 rural Alberta women have access to digital mammography screening through mobile units funded by the Alberta Cancer Foundation. BaM On the Street OVERVIEW What does it mean to volunteer for Bust a Move? • Make an impact in breast health • Spend a day being a set up superstar, registration rockstar or wonderous waterboy! • Be the cheerleaders to keep the participants going • Be available for the March 23rd event and March 21st and March 22nd, if possible • Fundraising is optional, but definitely encouraged! • Join hundreds of men and women in a day that will be sure to move more than your feet BaM On the Street OVERVIEW Event Overview • 6 energizing hours of exercise bliss led by local & celebrity fitness instructors • Motivating music and rockstar atmosphere • We’ll take care: massage areas, water and delicious refreshments! • Saturday, March 23rd at Edmonton Expo Centre, Hall H/G • Doors open at 7:30 AM, opening ceremonies are at 8:45 AM and the program ends at 3:30 PM. You are a true mover and shaker for breast cancer research and you deserve the best! The Numbers: Social media station • 530 Facebook page likes with > 573,700 impressions • 581 Twitter followers with 1,142,640 impressions on event day (top trending topic on Twitter- say that 10 times fast!) The Numbers: On-site massages • 16 incredible volunteers from CDI College Massage Therapy Program • 210 luxurious mini massages were enjoyed on event day TITLE THE A MOVE EXPERIENCE OnBUST the Street Bust a Move is an unforgettable event filled with inspiring moments, incredible stories and unparalleled energy. The Numbers •Each participant has their own 6’x6’ workout space on the floor •All yoga mats are provided • 17 pink yoga mats (indicated a cancer survivor) Individual groove zone The Numbers: • On event day, we will take care of you! • 650 smoothies, 250L of chocolate milk, 600 salads and 283.5L of water Complimentary food and drinks all day DOLLARS AND CENTS On the Street $400,000 was raised in support of an innovative breast cancer virus discovery project run out of the Cross Cancer Institute and In 2012, led by world renowned medical oncologist Dr. John Mackey. BaM On the Street OVERVIEW Overview of Volunteer Requirements • Thursday, March 21st : Big Set-up day! • 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM – Set up & Flooring • 3:30 – 9:00 PM – Registration Opens • Friday, March 22nd : Set-up! • 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM – Set up • 3:30 – 9:00 PM – Registration Opens BaM On the Street OVERVIEW Overview of Volunteer Requirements •Saturday, March 23rd : Event Day! •Shifts are either from 7:00 AM – 12:30 PM or 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM •Please be there at least 15 minutes before your shift. •Please check in at the Volunteer Room Desk when you arrive and check out there as well • Tear Down: Each volunteer will help to tear down their area, ensuring a very quick wrap-up! • While we all want to be efficient and wrap up quickly, please remember that we want to keep that energy high and awesome event experience. To really send everyone off in a positive way, please ensure you say goodbye to all participants before we start tearing down. ROLES LOGISTICS HOUSEKEEPING On the&Street Volunteer Check In Process • • • • • • Check in 15 minutes before your shift start time We will check you in and give you a shirt and nametag Drop your stuff off in the volunteer room Proceed to your designated area and introduce yourself to your team lead Once your shift is complete, check out with your team lead Check out at the volunteer room LOGISTICS HOUSEKEEPING On the&Street • Cell Phone Etiquette: although we encourage you to Facebook and Tweet about the event, please treat this as you would your job – no texting, etc while volunteering •Volunteer shirt – please keep on for the duration of the event • Breaks can be coordinated through the team lead. • Lunch on event day will be served in shifts so you can grab a bite and come back to work • 11:00 – 11:30 AM – AM Volunteers, CDI Massage team, Fitness teams, Staff and Dancers • 11:40-12:30 – Participants Lunch • 12:00 – 12:30 PM – PM Volunteers (before their shifts starts) • Food is provided for set-up days and of course, on event day from our wonderful sponsors! • Although we do try to meet dietary requests made in the volunteer survey we provided, we cannot guarantee meeting all requests. LOGISTICS HOUSEKEEPING On the&Street • Spectators are not offered food or massage: The goods are for you and the participants! If they do not have a wristband, we cannot provide these perks. •If there is an emergency, contact the team lead in your area who will then contact a staff person or a volunteer coordinator. •If, for any reason, you can’t attend your shift, please be sure to call your volunteer co-chairs. •Most importantly, remember that this is only our second year running this event and there are still some things we are figuring out. We need your patience, flexibility and positive attitude! •We want you to have a fantastic volunteer experience and if you need anything throughout the process, be sure to chat with your cochairs, Aimee and Heather!
