God Is…
(Proverbs 15:3) The eyes of
the LORD are in every place,
Keeping watch on the evil and
the good. (NKJV)
God Is…
(Proverbs 5:21) For the ways
of man are before the eyes of
the LORD, And He ponders all
his paths. (NKJV)
God Is…
(John 4:24) "God is Spirit, and those
who worship Him must worship in spirit
and truth." (NKJV)
 (1 John 1:5) This is the message which we
have heard from Him and declare to you,
that God is light and in Him is no
darkness at all. (NKJV)
 (1 John 4:8) He who does not love does
not know God, for God is love. (NKJV)
 (1 John 4:16) And we have known and
believed the love that God has for us. God
is love, and he who abides in love abides
in God, and God in him. (NKJV)

God’s Love Before Creation


(John 17:24) Father, I desire that they also,
whom thou hast given me, may be with me
where I am, to behold my glory which thou hast
given me in thy love for me before the foundation
of the world. (RSV)
(Ephesians 1:4-6) just as He chose us in Him
before the foundation of the world, that we
should be holy and without blame before Him in
love, having predestined us to adoption as sons
by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good
pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of
His grace, by which He has made us accepted in
the Beloved. (NKJV)
The Love of God in OT

(Deuteronomy 7:7-8) It was not because
you were more in number than any other
people that the LORD set his love upon
you and chose you, for you were the
fewest of all peoples; but it is because the
LORD loves you, and is keeping the oath
which he swore to your fathers, that the
LORD has brought you out with a mighty
hand, and redeemed you from the house
of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh
king of Egypt. (RSV)
The Love of God in OT
(Deuteronomy 4:37) And because he
loved your fathers and chose their
descendants after them, and brought you
out of Egypt with his own presence, by his
great power, (RSV)
 (Deuteronomy 10:15) yet the LORD set
his heart in love upon your fathers and
chose their descendants after them, you
above all peoples, as at this day. (RSV)

The Love of God in OT

(Hosea 11:1-4) When Israel was a child, I
loved him, and out of Egypt I called my
son. The more I called them, the more
they went from me; they kept sacrificing
to the Baals, and burning incense to idols.
Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk, I
took them up in my arms; but they did
not know that I healed them. I led them
with cords of compassion, with the bands
of love, and I became to them as one,
who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I
bent down to them and fed them. (RSV)


(Hosea 14:1-4) Return, O Israel, to the
LORD your God, for you have stumbled
because of your iniquity. Take with you
words and return to the LORD; say to him,
"Take away all iniquity; accept that which
is good and we will render the fruit of our
lips. Assyria shall not save us, we will not
ride upon horses; and we will say no
more, 'Our God,' to the work of our hands.
In thee the orphan finds mercy." I will
heal their faithlessness; I will love them
freely, for my anger has turned from
them. (RSV)
The Love of God in OT

(Jeremiah 31:1-3) "At that time, says the
LORD, I will be the God of all the families
of Israel, and they shall be my people."
Thus says the LORD: "The people who
survived the sword found grace in the
wilderness; when Israel sought for rest,
the LORD appeared to him from afar. I
have loved you with an everlasting love;
therefore I have continued my faithfulness
to you. (RSV)
God’s Love Is:

Self-Initiated
– (1 John 4:19) We love Him
because He first loved us.
(NKJV)

Undeserved
– (Romans 5:7-8) For scarcely for
a righteous man will one die; yet
perhaps for a good man
someone would even dare to die.
But God demonstrates His own
love toward us, in that while we
were still sinners, Christ died for
us. (NKJV)
God’s Love Is:

Sacrificial
– (1 John 4:10) In this is love,
not that we loved God, but
that He loved us and sent His
Son to be the propitiation for
our sins. (NKJV)

Universal
– (John 3:16) "For God so loved
the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have
everlasting life. (NKJV)
God’s Love Is:

Personal
– (Galatians 2:20) "I have been
crucified with Christ; it is no
longer I who live, but Christ lives
in me; and the life which I now
live in the flesh I live by faith in
the Son of God, who loved me
and gave Himself for me. (NKJV)

Stimulating
– (1 John 3:1) Behold what
manner of love the Father has
bestowed on us, that we should
be called children of God!
Therefore the world does not
know us, because it did not know
Him. (NKJV)
God’s Love Is:

Powerful
– (2 Corinthians 5:14) For the love
of Christ compels us, because we
judge thus: that if One died for
all, then all died; (NKJV)

Triumphant
– (Romans 8:37-39) Yet in all
these things we are more than
conquerors through Him who
loved us. For I am persuaded
that neither death nor life, nor
angels nor principalities nor
powers, nor things present nor
things to come, nor height nor
depth, nor any other created
thing, shall be able to separate
us from the love of God which is
in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NKJV)
The Proper Response To God’s
Love

Love For God
– (1 John 4:19) We love, because he first loved
us. (RSV)
– (John 14:15) "If you love Me, keep My
commandments. (NKJV)

Love for the Brethren
– (1 John 3:14) We know that we have passed
out of death into life, because we love the
brethren. He who does not love abides in
death. (RSV)
– (1 John 4:8) He who does not love does not
know God; for God is love. (RSV)
God Loves You!
(John 3:14-17) "And as Moses lifted up
the serpent in the wilderness, even so
must the Son of Man be lifted up, "that
whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have eternal life. "For God so loved
the world that He gave His only begotten
Son, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life. "For
God did not send His Son into the world to
condemn the world, but that the world
through Him might be saved. (NKJV)
