What is QAR’s?
It means that you understand
what type of questions you are
being asked, and where you
should look for the answer.

In the Reading
 Some questions can be answered by
finding key words in the questions and
the selection.
 You can underline key words or
information to prove you have the right
answer.
Right There in the Selection
Some questions have answers that are
found
right there
in the selection or book
 It is usually very easy to find
 Use key words from the questions to
look back in the selection
 You can normally put your finger on the
answer to the question is the selection.
Think and Search
This means that you can find it in the
reading,
But
You may have to put two and two together
or use clues from the reading to find the
answer.
Still, you can look for key words
in the questions and the selection
In My Head
 These answers are not found using key
words in the selection.
 You can’t underline the answer or put
your finger on a key word
 You have to stop and THINK
Author and You
Use your good reading detective skills
Put clues or “information” together to figure
out the best answer.
Think about what you know, and what the
author’s purpose for writing the selection is.
On My Own
 This means you have to think about
what you already know, and use this to
answer the question.
 The answer is not in the text
 Think about your own experience
